St. James Day Celebration

underconstruction was founded by two Oregon attorneys in 2001 as a national holiday celebrating James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. It is celebrated on the first Friday of the , which falls on March 21, 2008. Historically, during each year's tournament, overall productivity of U.S. workers drops, costing the U.S. economy an estimated $3.8 billion each year. In recognition of this side effect of the tournament, most celebrants take St. James Day as vacation from their jobs and professions, devoting the day to watching the tournament on television and updating "March Madness" tournament brackets completed in advance. |
