Special Agents in Charge of CTU

The Special Agent in Charge refers to a position on the fictional TV show 24. The Special Agent in Charge of , or the Director of CTU, usually coordinates CTU with other agencies such as the FBI and DHS. The Director of Field Operations and the Chief of Staff report to the Director. This position is usually filled by the best or most capable agent at CTU. If the current Director of CTU is unable to fulfill his or her duties, the Director of Division, to whom the Special Agent in Charge reports, will either promote an agent at CTU to the position, or place someone from Division at the post. If no one is available for the position, the Director of Division may place him/herself at the position. During a crisis, the Director of CTU often reports directly to the President of the United States.

Day 1

Jack Bauer
Bauer was director at the beginning of Day 1. He was at Senator Palmer's speech when an attempt on his life was made. Bauer tried to save Palmer but was arrested.

Alberta Green
Green was placed in charge of CTU by Ryan Chappelle after the office was vacant. She seemed to have dislike for Nina Myers.

Jack Bauer
Bauer resumed his duties as Director under the request of Senator Palmer until George Mason arrived from District.

George Mason
Mason was put in place as Director of CTU by Ryan Chappelle, and remained in charge for the rest of the day.

Day 2

George Mason
George was the Director at the start of season 2. Mason was exposed to lethal radiation, but survived. A doctor told him he would not survive the rest of the day. Knowing that he didn't have long to live, he took the place of Jack Bauer to dispose of a nuclear bomb in the Mojave Desert. He was killed by the blast.

Tony Almeida
Almeida took over for George Mason after his death and was director for the rest of the day.

Ryan Chappelle
Chappelle reclaimed the position of director of CTU while Tony Almeida was under arrest for assault for a little under 1 hour.

Tony Almeida
Almeida reclaimed his post after charges were dropped.

Day 3

Tony Almeida
Almeida was the director of CTU until he was shot in the neck and his wound required surgery. Before he was shot, the Cordilla Virus was threatened to be released.

Michelle Dessler
After Tony Almeida was shot, Dessler became Director of CTU whilst Ryan moved to CTU. In the process, she thought Gael Ortega was a double agent. However, Almeida identified him as a triple agent once he recovered enough to speak.

Ryan Chappelle
Chappelle took over for Tony Almeida during the period during which Almeida was incapacitated.

Tony Almeida
Almeida resumed his duties upon his return to CTU, during which he coordinated with Gael Ortega and Jack Bauer during the covert operation in Mexico. Later on in the day, Tony was blackmailed by the terrorist Stephen Saunders. Tony helped Saunders escape from a CTU operation in exchange for Michelle Dessler's life, who at the time was his wife. Tony was caught and relieved of his command.

Jack Bauer
Bauer took over CTU after Tony Almeida stepped down.

Day 4
Erin Driscoll
Driscoll was assigned to Director of CTU prior to Day 4 began. Erin had a daughter named Maya who had schizophrenia. Maya committed suicide and Driscoll resigned.

Tony Almeida

Almeida took over as Director of CTU for a short while after Erin Driscoll resigned. Division then sent Michelle Dessler to take over.

Michelle Dessler
Dessler replaced Tony Almeida after she was sent to take over from Division.

Bill Buchanan
Buchanan ordered Michelle Dessler to step down after Tony Almeida was supposedly 'blown up' in the car accident with Mandi. He then took over command of CTU for the rest of the day.

Day 5

Bill Buchanan
When Michelle Dessler resigned, Buchanan became the Director of CTU.

Lynn McGill
McGill was sent from Division to oversee the work of Bill Buchanan and CTU. After defying an order to place Jack Bauer into custody, Lynn McGill sent Bill Buchanan to holding. Agent Curtis Manning then invoked Section 112 removing McGill from his post. McGill was killed in the Sentox nerve gas attack on CTU.

Curtis Manning
Manning becomes Director briefly after he invoked Section 112 on Lynn McGill. Shortly after, he reinstated Bill Buchanan as Director of CTU.

Bill Buchanan
Buchanan resumed his tenure as Director of CTU after being reinstated by Curtis Manning.

Karen Hayes
Hayes was assigned to CTU after the Centox nerve gas attack. She took over CTU when DHS absorbed CTU Los Angeles.

Day 6

Bill Buchanan
Buchanan, now married to Karen Hayes, was again Director of CTU. Later on, Karen had to fire him for political reasons.

Nadia Yassir
Yassir was promoted to the job after Bill Buchanan was fired. At first, she didn't think she was fit for the job, but gained confidence after handling her job well.
