South West Science and Industry Council

The South West Science and Industry Council (SWSIC) was established in 2005, forming an advisory body to the South West of England Regional Development Agency and bringing industry, academic and public sector expertise to inform investment and development within South West England.
Objectives
The principle objective of the SWSIC is to facilitate business growth in the region through the exploitation of science and technology by ensuring better contact between industry and academia and promoting positive R&D engagement and two-way knowledge transfer. The SWSIC offers advice, guidance and direction for South West RDA investments and South West RDA engagement with departments like the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, as well as national bodies such as the Technology Strategy Board.
The Council's mission is to:
* stimulate collaboration between universities and business as well as between businesses;
* offer strategic guidance on potential investments to organisations like the South West RDA
* stimulate demand from business for science and technology investment
* represent the interests of the South West, nationally and internationally
* create partnerships with other regions thereby providing better value to the UK economy
Members
The members of the Council come from business and academia and are respected leaders in their fields. Donating their time for free, they contribute their experience and knowledge to assist the South West of England Regional Development Agency and other organisations in stimulating the economy of the South West to compete in the global economy.
