Sophia Linux

Sophia Linux is a free operating system adapted to schools. Using only free software (free, freely distributable and modifiable source code to the public accessing) this operating system is tailored to the needs of schools to Target offering services specifically prepared for the applicant.
Appearance
The design presented by Sophia Linux is inspired by a theme of Cosmos, aims and technological progress display on the existing Linux operating system. Thus wallpapers and themes are dark interface and presented in a modern, clean and original.
Morphology
The name "Sophia" is part of a set of words that represent the essence of this Linux. We could make out the name of the operating system in two sets: "SO" which refers to "operating system" and "PIA", which is the original name of the project school (Escola Pia), that is, where will initially Sophia Linux. Finally the "H" that interleaves both sides of the term has been added to the name for a word derived from "Sophos", the Greek word meaning "knowledge". This is a fundamental concept in any school that also fits perfectly with the philosophy of this system, since knowledge and technology education are aspects which should boost.

Free software is a major advantage for both the companies and organizations that use it because of its cost zero (among other benefits) compared to other operating systems like Microsoft Windows or Apple OSX.
This advantage is therefore more important in companies that have a large number of computers such as schools in which lately are incorporating new technologies.
It is rare today that a school does not have at least one classroom or library with several computers for the collective use of pupils.
It also is expanding the use of a computer located in each class collective centers for use by teachers.
Finally in some regions of Spain projects are underway to incorporate the use of computers individually by each of the students in different courses.
Therefore this increasingly more widespread use of computers and new technologies in schools.
But this generalization is not accompanied by a development pararelo regarding operating systems used on computers used in the same centers as the specific need to have some peculiarities which are not normally available in the software.
Once detected this situation two students from the School of Sabadell Pia decided to use their efforts in trying to create a free software as much as possible adapted for use in a school such as its own school, but it was available for any facility that would use.
This decided that their work would be done Baccalaureate Research on this topic.
Mates Eric Torres Thus the Baccalaureate technological coursing done his research on the adaptation of an OS Linux for use in schools. Simultaneously Xavi Marlasca Roig coursing social Baccalaureate done her research on the marketing of this new operating system. So that both jobs were related and mutually dependent on one another.
Technology
The S.O. Sophia Linux is based on Ubuntu Linux - Kubuntu on which we have worked to try to adapt the most to the needs of a school from kindergarten through high school.

So following this idea was created a website for the project Linux Sophia. Future and Upgrades
Both Eric Mates as Xavi Marlasca believe this is a project that should not stop work on it but just the opposite.
They may have begun the journey but both feel that this OS Sophia Linux should be constantly improved and therefore offer the possibility that other students in the future to implement improvements made on the project, possibly as other research work that had future based on the current project and undertake improvements or upgrades to Linux Sophia Current.
For this, and meeting one of the characteristics of free software, fonts will work available to anyone who needs on the website they have created for the project.
So asking Baccalaureate teachers of schools in Spain suggest that possibility to students who are considering the issue on which conduct their research.
