Lorenzo Zenteno (born March 10, 1985 in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American rapper of Mexican descent. He is best known by his stage name, Smoothvega.
Early Career Interested in rap from a young age, Zenteno began studying the art of professional studios at the age of 13. In 2000, he began recording professionally and later went on to release his first underground EP entitled "Da World Ain't Ready" (of which he only sold 250 copies) in 2002.
Frustrated with the negative feedback, a 17 year old Zenteno began working fast food to save up money to release his first full fledged album entitled "Unbreakable" which was released in 2004.
3.10.85 [http://i35.tinypic.com/90dmdg.jpg "3.10.85"] was released on August 26, 2008. The highly anticipated album featured the single "Joyride" (Feat. Lil' Flip) as well as guest appereances by Chino XL, Crooked I, , & Sinful (El Pecador of Tha Mexakinz)
Despite having a career that streched over 10 years, many people considered "3.10.85" Zenteno's debut independent album. "3.10.85" was a complete seperation of anything Zenteno had ever previously released. As stated by the XPOZ Magazine, his growth as an artist was displayed throughout the album with an extensive use of multiple rhyming and wordplay.
Many singles that were featured on "3.10.85" gained major circulation via the mixtape circuit. "Egomaniac" which is featured on "3.10.85" was featured on the legendary DJ Smallz "Southern Smoke" mixtape series. The official "3.10.85" single "Joyride" which features Multi-Platinum Texas Rap Legend Lil' Flip was featured on the Chingo Bling "Work In The Trunk" mixtape as well as DJ Eddie Deville's G Status mixtape series.
Awards On July 9, 2006, Zenteno won the 2006 Fort Worth Weekly Award for [http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2006/jul/10/2006-fort-worth-weekly-music-awards/ "Best Rap/R&B Artist"], a title that was previously held by TVT Records Recording Artist and fellow Fort Worth, Texas native Twisted Black.
On July 8, 2007, Zenteno won the 2007 Fort Worth Weekly Award for [http://www.fwweekly.com/content.asp?article=6140 "Best Rap/R&B Artist"], for second consecutive year (Becoming the first Latin Rapper to win the award back to back years) beating out the likes of TVT Records Recording Artist and fellow Fort Worth, Texas native Twisted Black who was also nominated for the same award.
