Skepchick

Origin of the term
A Skepchick is the colloquial name given to denote a female skeptic; the word is a portmanteau of skeptic and chick. The skeptical movement is largely dominated by older males and the name was coined to draw a special distinction to female skeptics. The first online registered project involving the term "skepchick" was David Palmer's 1999 "SkepChick calendar" .

Skepchick.org was started by Rebecca Watson with the stated intent to promote scientific skepticism among women. Rebecca Watson also appears on the The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe podcast. Skepchick International published a calendar of skepchicks in 2006 with proceeds providing the attendance fee for several female applicants to attend the James Randi Educational Foundation's . In 2007, two separate calendars were published with separate genders represented . The Skepchick site features a blog with fifteen contributors, including one man, who write about science, pseudoscience, religion, and other topics related to critical thinking and feminism.
