Silver nursing cup

Silver nursing cups are used to treat sore and sensitive nipples during breastfeeding. Their anatomical shape covers the nipples and areola. Silver nursing cups are made out of silver.
Silver nursing cups differ in their application and their effect from conventional silicone or latex nipple shields.
Manufacture
Silver nursing cups are made out of silver metal. There are silver nursing cups in different levels of silver purity up to a silver content of 99.9% (999 silver).
Safety
In Europe, silver nursing cups fall all under the 93/42/EEC Medical Device Directive. They are classified in risk class 1 for medical devices. The EU conformity assessment (Art. 11 Directive 93/42/EEC) is carried out by the manufacturer.
Effect
Silver nursing cups protect sore, irritated, or inflamed nipples. They prevent the nipples from drying out, buckling, and rubbing or sticking to clothes. The use on inflamed nipples can stop infections and thus accelerate the natural wound healing process (bio-active effect). The damaged skin area including microcracks, also known as rhagades, can then heal more quickly. Moist wound healing in breast milk also promotes the overgrowth of the wound with new skin cells (epithelization).
Application
Silver nursing cups should be placed on the sore and sensitive nipples before and after breastfeeding and worn under a nursing bra.
