Silicon Park Africa

About
Silicon Park Africa (SPA) is a technology park in George South Africa that includes a technology university, corporate offices, incubators, warehouses, labs, hotel and conference centre. It is the biggest technology park on the continent with construction scheduled to kick-off in 2016. Various other technology hubs have been created but have failed due to various reasons. SPA aims to succeed where others have failed by developing a sustainable ecosystem for technology companies, students, investors, scientists and engineers.
Investment
SPA is currently undergoing various rounds of funding for the various stages of the project. The project is estimated to cost 8 Billion ZAR (500 Million USD) which will be raised over 5 stages.
Social
5% of the total project value will be allocated towards upgrades of neighboring communities through infrastructure and housing upgrades. These communities will also benefit from water and energy supply as the park will supply these valuable resources to all neighboring areas obtained from new desalination plants and solar farms.
Education
The Africa Institute of Technology will bring internationally recognized technology degrees and programs to the continent thereby assisting with Africa's educational challenges. The AIT is currently in talks with international tertiary institutions. The facility will be funded through international donor funding and various corporate grants and bursaries will be made available to previously disadvantaged students. AIT aims to become the leading technology university on the African continent.
