TV Satyanarayana

Dr. T.V. Satyanarayana, is an Indian Professor expert in Agricultural Water Management and Drainage Management. He is presently working as Registrar, , Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Andhra Pradesh in India which is the largest Agricultural University in India. He has contributed to international collaboration for ANGRAU with foreign universities and institutions through the externally aided projects funded by the Netherlands Government and FAO, Rome for on-farm research and capacity building of the scientists and farmers. He was the instrumental to brining many projects to university including Andhra Pradesh Water Management Project
Scientific Contributions
Designed and implemented the state-of-the-art Sub-Surface Drainage Technologies successfully for reclamation of the salt affected (saline/alkaline/saline-sodic) and waterlogged fields of poor and marginal farmers to increase the agricultural productivity for the improving the socio-economic conditions of the farmers. This technology is useful to reclaim the 8.0 lakh hectares of salt affected lands in Andhra Pradesh
Developed efficient designs of flumes for accurate measurement of irrigation water in field channels with 98% accuracy. The ICAR has adjudged the results as outstanding and has advised to seek patent for the designs of the water measuring devices.
Developed efficient methods for increasing Water Productivity (Water Use Efficiency) of different crops including Rice which is a breakthrough in agricultural water management
• Mechanised System of Rice Intensification to reduce cost and labour dependency
• Sub-Surface Drainage for control of salinity and water logging in agricultural lands
• Water Use Efficiency studies for different crops
His research contributions are published 45 journals including 12 international peer reviewed journals. He also participated in 40 national and international seminars and workshops. He also released 16 technical bulletins.
He is expertise in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Water Management, Application of Optimization techniques and Operations research to Water Resources Management, Hydraulic Structures, Hydrology and Watershed Management, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Micro-Irrigation.
Scientific Contributions
1.He received Research Excellence award by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations for outstanding contributions in the field of Water Management and Reclamation of Problematic Lands in the year 2015
2.He awarded President’s GOLD MEDAL by the Institution of Engineers (INDIA), Calcutta, two times, at National Level for the best research in Agricultural Engineering at the 9th and 24th Indian Engineering Congress for the years 1994 and 2009 respectively
3. He received Shanker Memorial National prize of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE) for the best research in the field of Soil and Water Engineering.
4.He also received Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Award 2012, A V Krishnaiah Memorial Gold Medal for the Best Researcher in Agricultural Sciences in Andhra Pradesh, Engineer of the Year award during the year 1998 from Institute of Engineers.
