Joel Dick is a local community activist who is also a civil litigation lawyer, based in Toronto Centre. He has announced that he will be seeking the vacant city councillor seat for Ward 27 in the upcoming Toronto municipal election, 2010. He ran for trustee for the Toronto District School Board in the 2006 municipal elections and finished a close 2nd to incumbent(and Board Chair) Sheila Ward securing 27% of the vote. Joel is a long-term Toronto Centralian, having lived in Ward 27 for over 10 years and is involved in a number of endeavours including coach and referee for the Gord Summers Memorial Hockey League which serves kids in Regent Park and Moss Park and is a founding board member of Next Generation Energy Alternatives. His legal background has enabled him to contribute his time and expertise as a pro-bono lawyer for Child Advocacy Project providing legal representation to children on education issues as well having been a founding board member for Our Homes, a planned supportive housing project. He has also served as an adjudicator on the Toronto Licensing Tribunal . Joel received his Law Degree at University of Toronto and also received Masters’ degrees in international relations and peace studies.
