Shrips is an old Military slang word for small pieces of Shrapnel that hit Soldiers, but was not fatally embedded in the body. Meaning that the pieces were not significant enough a size to require surgery, simply pliers to remove them.
Since World War 2, the usage has diminished greatly due to much more sophisticated armor for Soldiers, as most Shrips today wouldn't pierce the Kevlar armors of Modern Soldiers.
Common phrases :
"Man up Soldier, they're only shrips."
"Anyone got Pliers? I got hit by some shrips."
"Medic station for shrips? Come over here, I'll take them out myself!"
