Shooting People

Shooting People is a London-based network for independent filmmakers founded by Cath Le Couteur and Jess Search in 1998. It enables filmmakers to connect via a database and daily newsletters. Starting with just 60 filmmakers the community has grown to an active membership of over 35,000. Since September 2003 Shooting People also operate a network in New York. It was used to help make films including Oscar-nominated short film Little Terrorist. Since 2005 Shooting People is also a distributor - for films made by members such as controversial Sundance documentary Unknown White Male. Shooting People has also distributed their own short film DVD collection, "Best v. Best" volumes I and 2 and for filmmakers, "Get Your Short Film Funded, Made and Seen: The Short Film Book from Shooting People." The DVD and book can be ordered on their website at http://shootingpeople.org/shop/
In January Shooting People launched a new initiative called Film of the Month, where members upload and rate films with the top 3 viewed by Shooting People's patrons; Mike Figgis (January), Morgan Spurlock (February), Stuart Beattie (March), Martha Fiennes (April), Edinburgh International Film Festival 09 Special (May), Michael Nyman (June), and Larry Charles (July). Each month there is a new patron and new films are uploaded. The winner has the privilege of a review of their film by the patron.
