Shiny Revolution Shiny Revolution is an american-made anime manga that contains Shonen-ai and sometimes yaoi.
The story is about a young, just-graduated boy named Kya Saehara, who dreams of becoming a famous singer and singing along side his guitarist idol Kyousuke Seto. Kyousukes' band HIJACK is said to hold auditions for a new vocalist at the series start, which is how Kya comes face-to-face with him and somehow works his way into the stubborn guitarists' life, and foreges a strong and very passionate relationship between the two boys. The series then follows their love-story along with the rest of the band and their family and romance issues. It also contains drama within each character with pasts that involve drugs, sex, and relationships.
Characters:
Kya Saehara-The hero(?) of the story. Kya is a very soft, very femine boy who is madly in love with Kyousuke. Although he is high-pitched and sometimes very squeaky he has a very powerful and good voice, which is probably-if not-the only reason Kyousuke made him vocalist of HIJACK. Kya has black hair up to his shoulders with two cowlicks that twitch when aroused or active and big ruby eyes, mostly mistaken for a girl because of his undevoloped body and additude. Kya is always uke.
Kyousuke Seto-An athletic and headstrong guy, he is known as a perfectionist because he's practically great at anything he does. He finds himself hoplessly falling for young Kya and sees him as his dead mother reborn in a male body. His past involves him commiting suicide and shooting himself in the heart when he was 13, his heart repeats to hurt him as the series goes on. He wears gothic clothing and is attractive in a pretty boy like way. Kyousuke has long silver hair to his knees and soft blue eyes.
Miztsuko Riho-A brother figure to most of the characters, he always supports his friends and conforts everyone as good as he can. He became engaged at 15 to Kai Sayaki and has been with her since. However, he winds up in love cycles with both Kyousuke and Suka which exposes his bi-sexuality. He is a cross-dresser who has been called "perfect" at times, drummer of HIJACK. Miztsuko has blonde hair slightly longer than Kyousuke's and dark blue eyes. Miztsuko is always seme.
Suka Urae-The most un-noticed character who is the most obssessive when it comes to his love for Sai, he can be a bit slow at times but he understands how good hes got it, keyboardist of HIJACK. Suka has black hair slightly shorter and messier than Kya's and big amber eyes.
Kai Riho-A powerful woman with a somewhat grouchy additude torwards men, mainly because her parents wanted a son and didn't treat her the same. She loves her husband and hates when he cheats on her, which is often. Miztsuko's wife. Kai has brown hair to her waist and matching brown eyes.
Sai Sayaki-The air headed heart throb of Suka, she is probably the most naive character in Shiny. Emo when she was a young girl, until she was inspired by the kindness of Miztsuko's rag doll, Creamy. Suka's girlfriend (not wife because of Suka's "unknown" religon that doesn't allow him to marry her.) Sai has purple (naturally brown) hair to her chest and brown eyes.
Sumaru Seto-The homophobic father of Kyousuke. The only thing hes soft torwards is Shu, his dead wife, and sometimes Skye (Miztsuko's dad) and Kyousuke. Highly unsupportive of his son's gay relationship, but gets softer as time goes on. Sumaru has dark brown hair to his shoulders and hazel eyes.
Shima Riho-Religious mother of Miztsuko. She is really in love with Sumaru and is teased by him just to make their son's mad. Shima has curly blonde hair to her ankles and dark blue eyes.
Sarah-A sweet American woman who was formerly Kyousuke's fiance' and mother of his child. Very forgiving and generous, she still loves Kyousuke but supports his love for Kya, who usually gets jealous of her for being so close to the guitarist. Sarah has blue hair (naturally dirty blonde) up to her waist and seafoam green eyes.
Kasuya-Kya's childhood friend and rival of Kyousuke for Kya's love. Mentioned very few times in the manga, mainly fighting Kyousuke for Kya but failed, then got closer to Sarah at the end of the series. Kasuya has red orange hair in a ponytail usually and green eyes.
Tai and Suko Riho-Sons of Miztsuko and Kai. Tai is similar to Miztsuko because of his innocent-but-not additude, he has dirty blonde hair and crystal eyes. While Suko is similar to Kai for his everybody's an idiot additude, he has light brown hair and blue eyes.
Chisa Seto-Kyousuke and Sarah's daughter. Like Kyousuke, she is very stubborn and egotistical. She hates the fact her father is in love with Kya and does whatever she can to tease him. Chisa has similar hair to her mothers', and hazel eyes.
Seiji-Kya's adopted son, which Kyousuke didn't aprove of at first because of their orientation, but his love for his "mommy and daddy" was too strong. Seiji has red hair and black eyes.
Pairings:
Throughout Shiny Revolution, different pairings between characters is almost constant. Such as Miztsuko and Kyousuke, Miztsuko and Suka, and Suka and Kya. However, the pairings of the original couples never change. There have also been aukward pairings put together for fandom, such as Miztsuko and Sai, Kyousuke and Sai, Suka and Kai, even Kai and Sai, and oddly, Sumaru and Kya's father, Minho.
Seme and Uke:
The "seme and uke" couples in Shiny are constantly changed depending on which character is more dominant and more soft. For example, Kyousuke is usually seen as the seme in a yaoi relationship, but if paired with Miztsuko or his father, he would be seen as an uke. However, him paired up with softer or younger characters like Kya or Suka, he would be considered seme.
In comparison to real life:
Shiny Revolution is realistic most of the time, and usually references pop culture such as Led Zepplin, Rush, Kiss, Britney Spears, and more. Most of which by Kyousuke, Miztsuko, Suka and Kya. However, things like Kyousuke constantly comes face-to-face with his future and past selves, Kya's cowlicks twitching and Kai's obsession with shooting men out of the blue and them somehow surviving would be refered to as fantasy or cartoon type of references.
