Shey Rivera Ríos is a Puerto Rican performance, digital media, installation poetry/narrative artist, musician, and writer based in Providence, Rhode Island and Boston, Massachusetts. Rivera is the current Director of Inclusive Regional Development at MIT CoLab within the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning. Education Rivera attended the American School in Bayamón, Puerto Rico where they received high honors and were enrolled in the Advanced Program. Rivera also attended the University of Puerto Rico where they received a BA in Psychology and Sociology and completed graduate studies in Media and Contemporary Culture at the University of Sacred Heart, San Juan, Puerto. Professional Career Rivera currently works at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Community Innovators Lab (CoLab) where they work as Director of Inclusive Regional Development with a focus on Latin America. Before working at MIT, Rivera spent 8 years (from 2010-2018) at AS220; a Providence, Rhode Island based community non-profit centered around the arts. Rivera also participates civically in the Providence and Rhode Island community through their involvement in a variety of organization boards and advisory committees, such as Providence Downtown Design Review Committee and the Providence Public Art Committee (Mayor's Office of Art, Culture and Tourism), and the Providence Downtown Improvement District Board. Artistic career Rivera’s practices art through video, digital media, poetry, performance, and mixed media installations, using these to address topics of queerness, capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, gender, religion, equity, medicine, and home.
