Shelby Ford

Shelby Michael Ford (born December 15, 1984 in Fort Worth, Texas) is a Minor League Baseball second baseman formerly in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization who is currently playing for the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
Amateur Career
High School
Ford attended Southwest Christian School and Southwest High School.
College
Ford played college baseball for the TCU Horned Frogs from 2004 to 2005. In the summer of 2004 he played for the Coppell Copperheads of the Texas Collegiate League. As a sophomore in 2005, Ford led the team with a .370 average. He transferred to Oklahoma State University before the 2006 season. Ford signed to play professional baseball in 2006.
Professional Baseball Career
Pittsburgh Pirates
Ford was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 3rd round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft. In 2006, he played for the Williamsport Crosscutters and the Hickory Crawdads. In 2007, he played for the Lynchburg Hillcats. In November 2007, he was ranked by Baseball America as the #6 prospect in the Pirates' organization. In 2008, he played for the Altoona Curve. In January 2009, he was ranked by Baseball America as the #8 prospect in the Pirates' organization. Prior to the 2009 season, he was considered the top second base prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates' system. He split the 2009 season with the Curve and the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. In 2010, he played for the Bradenton Marauders and the Curve. In 2011, he played for Altoona and Indianapolis. He was released by the Pirates in July 2011.
Fort Worth Cats
Ford signed with the Fort Worth Cats in February 2012.
