Shawn Noel

Shawn Noel known to many as Da Ma$tamind, was born in Trinidad and Tobago, on August 10, 1983. He is well known to his native land as a Soca/Calpyso producer, composer and musician, Having won several music awards from theCopyright Organization of Trinidad and Tobago (Cott) including New Songwriter of the year 2005, Ragga Soca of the year 2005 for his work on Bunji Garlin's Warrior Cry, Groovy Soca of the year 2006 for Shurwayne Winchester's Don't Stop and Soca riddim of the year 2005 from the Soca Awards(SAO).
In 2004 he co-founded Mastamind Productions in Brooklyn, New York, with Natasha Andrews-Noel, a full-range music production company specialising music production in soca, calypso, and reggae. Since then Shawn Noel has produced and released 8 soca compilations, and has worked with well known artists such as Collie Buddz, Shurwayne Winchester, Bunji Garlin, Salt (from Salt-n-Pepa), Maximus Dan,Talpree, Bomani, Crazy, Bud, Lyrikal, Kevon Carter, and Leon Coldero.
In 2005, Noel decided to record a song on the Pot O Gold riddim, the same riddim that he produced for Bunji Garlin's "Blaze the fire", a song that went on to win International Soca monarch of Trinidad and Tobago 2005. Shawn's brother Mistah Shak wrote the lyrics for Shawn's first song entitled "I produce this", a song about all the music he had composed so far in his career. That is when Noel first realized he wanted to sing, so by 2007 Shawn had another opportunity to sing again, this time he teamed up with well known Chutney Soca artiste Rikki Jai on a tune called , this song received some airplay, but wasn't nearly as popular as Shawn's other collaboration with humorous soca artiste Patch on a track entitled De Tail Gone, it is this track that really propelled Shawn into a singing career.
In August, 2008 Shawn's management released a statement launching his career as an entertainer and soon after he released his first song J'ouvert Jam with Lyrikal, this song quickly became popular that come October Shawn released another single Come Lewwe parang for the Christmas season, the track was featured on his company's annual compilation A Mastamind Christmas 3. He then released another song in November, 2008 entitled Rum and Roti a song performed with soca artiste Patch. Rum and Roti, proved to be biggest song of his singing career, this song secured Shawn and Patch a place in the finals for the chutney soca monarch 2009 and the International Groovy Soca Monarch 2009.
Noel has now joined the band Shurwayne Winchester and Y.O.U. as a frontline vocalist. This is a first for Noel as he is known to many as an accomplished musician. His singing career definitely blossomed, as he released his second solo song entitled "Wuk-Up Heaven" in May 2009.
Noel and his company Mastamind Productions has been featured in articles in national newspapers such as The Trinidad and Tobago Express, Trinidad Guardian, The Trinidad Newsday and entertainment magazines such as WE Magazine, Island Events and Trini jungle Juice. His music has been featured onVP Records Soca Gold compilations and His music has won the International Soca Monarch and Groovy Soca Monarch titles in Trinidad and Guyana.
Shawn Noel is also the producer of the Caribbean Soca album Da Mastamind Project and the Soca Parang album A Mastamind Christmas, his most recent release is Soca lovers, a compilation of soca songs.
His sobriquet Da Ma$tamind was given to him by Bunji Garlin while he was a member of the Soca Band The Asylum, as a musician he has performed with Machel Montano HD, Shurwayne Winchester, Peter Ram, Rikki Jai, Iwer George, Red Rat, Da'Ville, Johnny King, Faye Ann Lyons, La Davina Pastora, Destra Garcia, Rupee, Kevin Lyttle, Ginuwine, Maxi Priest and others.
