Shauna Jacobson

Shauna Jacobson (March 4, 1958- December 11, 2004) was a police officer in the City of Austin, Texas for 20 years.

Life and Police Work

Shauna Jacobson was born in Massachusetts. Her father was in the Air Force while she was growing up, so she moved from city to city quite often. After moving back to Austin, she worked many jobs in an admirable attempt to raise her son. Shauna was married to Malcolm "Kurt" Jacobson at the time of her death. Jacobson entered the police force in 1984 as a patrol officer. She loved her work as a patrol officer, especially assignments near her home growing up, describing her work "like that old pair of jeans that fit". Jacobson was promoted to detective, now working on sex crimes and a part of the homicide unit. Detective Shauna Jacobson became the first female officer in the history of the Austin Police Department to work on the homicide unit. Jacobson continued to move up the police ranks, eventually becoming the first ever female Commander in the Austin Police Department's history. After getting on her feet financially, she went back to college and earned her college degree from Southwest Texas State (now known as "Texas State University") in the Applied Arts and Sciences Program. Shauna Jacobson's legacy as a police officer is best put by Commander Duane McNeill, "If a person wants to look at a role model in police work, there is no better example than Lt. Shauna Jacobson,".<references/>
