Sharon McKie

Sharon McKie LLB (Hons), Solicitor (non-practising), CTA (Fellow)
Sharon McKie is the Managing Partner and a designated member of [http://www.mckieandco.com/ McKie & Co (Advisory Services) LLP], a well-established writer and lecturer on taxation and a contributor to the charitable and technical activities of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
McKie was educated at Great Torrington School and at Kingston University, where she studied Law. She subsequently qualified as a solicitor and Chartered Tax Adviser.

McKie has specialised in private client taxation since the early 1990s at Butterworths, Robson Rhodes, Coutts & Co, Arthur Anderson & Co and Samuel Montague.
Contribution to Wider Professional Life
McKie has sat on a number of specialist committees concerning taxation. She is a member of the Succession Taxes sub-committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a former member of that Institute’s Capital Taxes sub-committee and the Stamp Duties Working Group. She was Chairwoman of the Stamp Duty Working Party of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of that Institute’s Inheritance Tax and Trust Technical sub-committee.

McKie’s articles on taxation have been published in various technical journals including Taxation, Private Client Business, Tax Adviser, Elderly Client Adviser, Tax Journal, CCH Tax News, the Trust Quarterly Review, and the Private Client Yearbook.
Books
She is the authoress, or joint authoress, of a number of books on taxation including Hutton & McKie: Stamp Duty Land Tax, Tolleys Estate Planning and McKie on Statutory Residence.
McKie on Statutory Residence has been described as the book ‘to which the tax scholars of the future will turn for an example of how we made law in the early part of the 21st century’, and as ‘the authoritative introduction to an area of continuing importance’.
With her husband, Simon McKie, she writes and edits an e-magazine on private client taxation entitled the .
The Fellowship Medal
In 2015, McKie was made a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in recognition of her part in writing McKie on Statutory Residence. She was awarded the Fellowship Medal which is awarded for the best fellowship submission of the year.
Establishment of McKie & Co (Advisory Services) LLP
History and Structure
On leaving Samuel Montague and Co, McKie established, with her husband Simon McKie, [http://www.mckieandco.com McKie & Co (Advisory Services) LLP] (‘MCLLP’), a limited liability partnership which was registered in England and Wales under registration number OC300925, to provide taxation consultancy advice on matters of taxation affecting the private client, primarily to accountants, solicitors and other advisers of private clients. It succeeded to the practice of McKie & Co, which had been established by Simon McKie on 1 November 1998, on 1 January 2002. The members and designated members of MCLLP are Sharon McKie and Simon McKie.
Awards
MCLLP has twice won the Award of Tax Consultancy Firm of the Year in Taxation magazine’s Taxation Awards most recently in this year’s awards. It won the award for the Boutique Firm of the Year in the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Awards in 2009/2010 being short listed again in 2013/2014.
