Shah Sharif Majzub(RA) is the maternal Grandson of Hz Bandagi Miyan Shah Dilawar(RZ) and Bibi Qunza Noor(RA). Hz Shah Dilawar(RZ) had 3 daughters from this Bibi RA, and Bibi Zainab RA was one among them. Bibi Zainab(RA) was given in marriage to Hz Miyan Shah Mehmood RA and this couple had a son Hz Miyan Shah Sharif(RA) and a daughter Bibi Achchu Ma(RA). Hz Shah Sharif(RA) grew up in front of his maternal Grandfather and became a young man, when Hz Shah Dilawar RZ died this grandson was about 17 years of age. Early life and education In Mahdaviat the companionship of the truthfuls is must and in this desire for the company of the righteous ones and to follow the Mahdavia tenets he migrated to Daulatabad and started living under Hz Bandagi Miyan Abdul Karim Nuri RA (son of Hz Bandagi Miyan Abdul Majeed ‘Noor Nosh’ RA) he is counted first among the twelve khalifa’s of Hz Bandagi Miyan Shah Dilawar(RZ). One day Hz Shah Sharif(RA) was pouring water for his Murshid Hz Abdul Karim Nuri(RA) for performing ablution (Wazu), the water of wazu was getting collected in a vessel underneath and in the love of his murshid this Murid drank that water and from that day onwards he lost his senses and use to be in a state of enrapture (divine ecstasy). He used to be mostly in that state of Majzub without the sense of proper clothing. Real Life Incidents On 14th Shaban, it is said that Hz Shah Abdul Karim Nuri(RA) invited the entire fuqara of his Daira for meals, but Hz Shah Sharif(RA) was not invited, upon this exclusion some of the fuqara said, Hz Shah Sharif Majzub(RA) should also be invited. In reply, Hz Abdul Karim Nuri(RA) said, ‘I do not want to invite him because he will create something’. Upon this the invitees said, when everybody is invited he should also be included, so on the insistence and the good will of the guests he was also invitation. On his invitation Hz Shah Sharif(RA) came happily into the daira clapping his hands and reciting a line saying ‘Peer chale apne ghar humko bhi kuch dete jana, Peer chale apne ghar humko bhi kuch dete jana’ Peer is going to his abode give us something while going away. Upon hearing these words the gathering in the Daira became dumb stuck as if a thunderbolt hit them and everybody thought whether the end of their Murshid Hz Shah Abdul Karim Nuri RA has already arrived. Taking stock of the situation Hz Abdul Karim Nuri RA said, that is why I had already cautioned you and not included him, now see you people are all in a state of confusion and tension’. The entire Daira was worried and came to the conclusion that, this might be a prediction of their ‘Peer’s end, while thinking this everybody became sad and the atmosphere became gloomy. The very next day on 15th Shaban, Hz Bandagi Miyan Shah Abdul Karim Nuri RA died and was buried in Daulatabad. Devotees Hz Shah Sharif RA had a long list of admirers and well-wishers, people thronged to his hujra and were always present in large numbers in day and also in nights, his hujra was a thatched small hut. Sometimes in his divine ecstasy he use to become ‘Jalali’. Hz Shah Sharif RA use to sit under a neem tree in the state of divine ecstasy without the proper sense of clothing. *One day Maloji Bhosale the Patel of Ellora was traveling with his family and entourage suddenly one of his servant tried to laugh on the state of Hz Shah Sharif Majzub RA, as soon as his sight fell on that ill-behaved sevant he took a neem twig and pressed in his teeth and a loud voice of gun was heard by everybody and immediately that servant collapsed as if hit and died immediately in front of everyone. Maloji Bhosale came to know of this incident he rushed in the feet of Hz Shah Sharif RA and humbly touched his feet and sought forgiveness. After this incident Hz Shah Sharif RA came back into the Daira, from now onwards Maloji Bhosale the patel also became a devotee of Hz Shah Sharif RA so much that daily without fail he use to visit him in the Daira do his Qadambosi and for long time sit in his feet. *Maloji Bhosale did not have any children and wished in his heart that Hz Shah Sharif RA should give him dua for children. One day he visited as usual, it was time for Zuhr prayers during that time Hz Shah Sharif RA was performing ‘Wazu’ ablution, Hz Shah Sharif RA immediately took some mud wet by his wazu and gave it to Maloji Bhosale and said ‘eat it’, without a word he complied and immediately started eating it and kept some of that wet mud for his wife from there he ran home and gave it to his wife saying, I brought a gift from Hz Shah Sharif RA, without a word she also ate the remaining. Very soon the couple were blessed with 2 sons and he named them on Hz Shah Sharif RA the eldest was named Shahji and the younger was named Sharifji, here it is to be noted that, this Shahji is the father of the famous Maratha warrior Shivaji. After this incident nearly the entire Maratha’s became his admirers and devotees and started thronging in crowds to take his blessings. Until today one can find the Maratha’s taking the blessings from the Payan of Hz Shah Sharif RA. *The ruler of Ahmednagar Burhan Nizam Shah was also a big admirer of Hz Shah Sharif RA, time and again he used to visit him and take his blessings earnestly. On 17th Jamadi al Sani 1025H, Hz Shah Sharif Majzub RA died, he was 99 years old. He was laid to rest in the Daira at Ahmednagar in the midst of thousands of his grieving and mourning admirers. Maloji the Grand father of Shivaji built a beautiful tomb for Hz Shah Sharif RA and use to spend much of his time at the tomb. The commander in chief of Ahmednagar Malik Amber was murid of Hz Bandagi Miyan Vaziruddin RA (A khalifa of Hz Shah Dilawar RZ); he built a beautiful Masjid opposite the tomb of Hz Shah Sharif RA. *It is also said that, nawbath was performed at his tomb twice daily. One day Emperor Aurangazeb visited Ahmednagar and got stopped this activity of Nawbath at the tomb from that very evening, as soon as the nawbath stopped in the same night Hz Shah Sharif RA came in the dream of Aurangazeb and reprimanded him saying you got stopped our naubath and from now on 6 months later your Naubath will also be stopped and in a fit of anger ‘Jalal’ he overturned his bed, Aurangazeb was startled and suddenly woke-up from sleep and found himself lying under the overturned bed, he shouted for help his servants came running and the bedstead was arranged properly and he came out from underneath. Exactly 6 months later Aurangazeb died in Ahmednagar and his naubath also got stopped. These were some of the maujuzat of Hz Shah Sharif Majzub RA. *The famous Debate on Mahdaviat ‘Mubahis-E-Alamgiri’ held between Hz Miyan Shaykh Ibrahim (RAH) and (Judge) Qadi Abu Said ordered by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgiri was held at Ahmadnagar. The Mehdavi fuqara started from chichound and arrived at the tomb-complex of Hz Shah Sharif RA in Ahmadnagar and gave notice to the Judge of their arrival, the debate took place in the official court building and ultimately the Royal decision was pronounced in favour of the Mehdavi fuqara. For more details on the debate can go through ‘Mubahis-E-Alamgiri’ compiled in Persian by Hz Miyan Abu Al Qasim RA, translated into Urdu by Iftekhar Aijaz Sahab of Kachiguda, Hyderabad (Expert on Naqliyath of Imam Mehdi AS) and English translation by Scott A.
