Shannon Hurley

Shannon Hurley (born in South Bend, Indiana) is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. Her grandmother was a performer in Vaudeville, and her mother and aunt are semi-professional singers. Hurley began playing piano when she was eight years old. Upon entering the 5th grade, she switched to the trombone.
In high school, her family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Shannon attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her senior year she studied with Patrick Leonard, whose songs have been recorded by Madonna. After earning a degree in music performance, she joined a band, playing keyboards and singing back-up. She also took a job at the Fox Theater, stage managing for live musical performances. In 2000, Hurley had her first composition published—a sonata for trombone and piano entitled "Two Western Sketches".
In 2001, Hurley moved to Los Angeles, where she hooked up with bass player Ben Eisen, and made the rounds on the open mic circuit. In 2003 she released a self-titled 5 song EP. The following year, Hurley co-founded Don't Call Us Tori—a showcase for singer-songwriters like Gilli Moon, Libbie Schrader, Marina Verenikina, Kari Kimmel, and Beth Thornley—with Steve Leavitt.
In 2004, Hurley played keyboard and sang backup for Universal/Motown artist Brie Larson. Hurley appears in Larson's video "She Said" and in the Nickelodeon program All That as herself. In 2005 she joined Larson on a tour supporting Jesse McCartney.
In 2006, Hurley released an EP, Sunrise. Later that year, Rolling Stones website included her in a list of the "25 best bands on MySpace".
Hurley's full-length debut, Ready to Wake Up, was released in November 2007. In support of the album, Hurley played at L.A.'s Hotel Cafe, and toured nationally.
Hurley took part in a Getty Center performance of original songs at an exhibit of drawings by 16th century artist Taddeo Zuccaro.
In the summer of 2008 she publicly requested remixes of songs from "Ready to Wake Up". Within two months, she received over 400 remixes. Hurley selected eight of the remixes and released them in December 2008 as Second Light: The Ready to Wake Up Remixes. Also in 2008, Hurley's music was licensed to Muzak. Selected songs from "Ready to Wake Up" can be heard in department stores, restaurants, and hotels around the U.S.
In 2009, Hurley released a single and music video for her song "California". She also moved from Los Angeles to Nashville.
Hurley's song "Sunrise" is set to be included in the soundtrack of John Sjogren's upcoming film The Lights.
