Shamim A. Aarzoo (born on 6 October) is an Indian social activist. He is the founder and CEO of Lucknow Society and aims to preserve, promote and resurrect the inimitable culture and heritage of Lucknow. ‘Let’s Unite for Culture, Knowledge, Nationalism and Objective Welfare of Society’- each character of the christening contains the fervor of commitment to the cause. The society came into force on 25th April 2011 sanctioned under the Societies Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860). Early Life He did his early schooling from St. Francis College, Kanpur. He received a B.Com degree from the Lucknow University and then later on pursued M. Com from the same University. Activism Lucknow Society The Lucknow Society is a non-profit cultural organization focused on the preservation and promotion of culture and heritage of Lucknow. It was established on 25th April 2011 as a registered body under the Societies Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860). The organization's name is an acronym for "Let's Unite for Culture, Knowledge, Nationalism, and Objective Welfare. Lucknow Literary Festival The Lucknow Literary Festival (LLF) is an international literary festival held annually in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India since 2013. It is a 3-day event that celebrates creativity in all its forms. It is held each year in Lucknow, during the month of February/March, and celebrates excellence in Indian and International writing. The Lucknow Observer A monthly magazine (established in 2013) dedicated to the city, which covers almost every aspect of life, contemporary as well as traditional. The objective is to remind and to return to contemporary citizens a historical legacy that belongs to them, to help transform that which is in a state of decay into development and above all to share with readers local personalities and events that make living in Lucknow such a special experience. Kyunki Shahar Hai Aapka Kyunki Shahar Hai Aapka is another initiative of Shamim. A. Aarzoo. The mission of this initiative is to spread awareness about cleanliness of their city, to make people stop writing on walls and pasting posters wherever possible. The initiative is not only confined to cleaning the walls but the main purpose of the initiative is to spread awareness amongst the common people as to what this city can be. The effort known as Kyunki Shahar Hai Aapka is as much a reminder to the people of Lucknow as to the volunteers, that the care and welfare of Lucknow is not merely a bureaucratic affair but the responsibility of each and every individual. Save Our Heritage Mission to save the diminishing heritage of Lucknow. To fight for the restoration of the monuments and culture to its lost glory. Shaam-e-Adab 'Shaam-e Adab', is a series of literary seminars, which are organized to pay homage to the legends, a campaign on the literary aspect of Lucknow, which highlights the ‘Literary Heritage of Lucknow’ and make citizens aware about it. The author varies from legends of Hindi and Urdu language from Lucknow and adjoining areas. Know Your City Various arts and crafts of Lucknow are highlighted in this initiative which otherwise are not compiled at one place. Cultural and social aspects are captured through beautiful photographs along with informative write-ups is the attraction. Discovering Lucknow A coffee table book, which provides the minutes of age-old monuments of Lucknow in the then and now concept along with the QR Codes with the route map to reach the monument. Lucknow Dance Festival Another initiative to promote and preserve the age-old dance culture of Lucknow along with a blend of Indo-western dance styles, The event generally consist of a week long dance workshop followed by an evening presenting the participants performing their arts along with their trainers and other eminent personalities belonging to the field. Explore Lucknow An aspect to explore the city through your lens, covering different frames and angles, an online photography contest which has been running for last 3 years. This may include various aspects like the architecture wonders of Lucknow, Cultural life of Lucknow, Emerging Lucknow etc. Let’s Save Calligraphy An initiative taken to spread, save and nurture the dying art form. People are made aware about the script and the art of calligraphy, which can be seen on numerous monuments not only in Lucknow but also around the globe. Pride of Lucknow Award An award presented to people who belong to Lucknow and have been contributing extraordinarily in different spheres of life. These people may belong to various fields like Hindi writing, Urdu writing, Journalism, Social service etc. The award giving ceremony takes place at the Lucknow Literary Festival every year.
