Serge Schoemaker

Serge Schoemaker (born October 23, 1975 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch architect. He leads the architectural practice Serge Schoemaker Architects which he founded in 2007. Trained as an architect in the Netherlands and Switzerland, Serge Schoemaker tries to achieve a balance between the Dutch conceptual and Swiss crafts approach towards architecture. Biography Serge Schoemaker studied architecture at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and the ETH Zurich in Switzerland, receiving his diploma in 2000. In 2001 he won the Archiprix International, an international award for the best graduation projects in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture. He worked as project architect of the highly praised Kolumba Art Museum in Cologne, Germany, at the practice of the renowned Swiss architect and Pritzker Prize winner Peter Zumthor from 2002 to 2007. In 2007, Serge Schoemaker returned to the Netherlands to set up his own practice. Since then he has run his own architect's office in Amsterdam and is visiting lecturer at the Delft University of Technology, the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Amsterdam Academy of Architecture. Recent projects of Serge Schoemaker Architects encompass the design for the extension of Museum Maluku in Utrecht (2010) and the short-listed competition design for the new furnishings of Amsterdam's famous city park, the Vondelpark (2009) .
