Sentilla is a company providing management solutions for data centers, based in Redwood City, California. The company was originally founded as Moteiv in 2003, before being relaunched as Sentilla in 2007. Sentilla also operates out of a London office, opened in early 2009, and is present on the United Kingdom market. Origins Sentilla was started as Moteiv by three co-founders and graduates of the University of California at Berkeley in 2003: Joe Polastre, Cory Sharp, and Rob Szewczyk. As Moteiv, the company was a major designer of wireless sensor network platforms. At the core of the hardware design is the Texas Instruments MSP430 MCU, a 16-bit microcontroller. In 2007, the company moved into its headquarters in Redwood City, CA. Products Sentilla implemented a Java Virtual Machine on its MSP430-based platform. Three of these platforms (including a gateway) and accompanying software was proposed for sale as the Perk Kit, for which Sentilla received a Duke's Choice Award. The Perk Kit contains all the hardware and software required to develop very tiny devices using the Java Platform, Micro Edition (JavaME), a version of Java technology specifically designed for small devices. It was a show device for JavaOne 2008. In January 2009, Sentilla released the Sentilla Energy Manager for data centers, which tracks and analyzes power use throughout a data center.
