SendSocial

SendSocial is an online utility that enables people to send parcels to one another without revealing address information.
Formation and Launch
The company was founded in March 2009 by Ben Way, a British serial entrepreneur known for his appearance on 'The Secret Millionaire'. Way used Twitter, the social networking service, along with a blog to ask for feedback on an idea of his, and invited seven young entrepreneurs to launch SendSocial with him.
SendSocial was incorporated in August 2009 and launched in November 2009 with coverage in The Sunday Telegraph, and has since been featured on ITV News, Brand Republic and a number of regional publications.
Hermes, one of the UK's largest courier networks, was SendSocial's initial launch partner, enabling individuals to send items to one another from £3.99 using SendSocial's unique address-less labels.
Request process
SendSocial uses a request and acceptance process, acting as a third party between sender and recipient to arrange deliveries on their behalf. The sender makes a request on the SendSocial website to their intended recipient, using their Twitter screen name or e-mail address. The recipient receives the request and may opt to accept or decline it. Upon accepting the request, the recipient selects or enters their address, and the sender is notified by e-mail that the delivery may now be paid for. The sender pays for the delivery, which is then filed for collection for the next working day.
Developments
Since launch, SendSocial has introduced a JSON-based API, allowing other websites to offer the same request and acceptance process as SendSocial, as well as protecting users' personal information.
