The Segalgate scandal is a political scandal taking place in Orange County Florida, resulting from Bill Segal's campaign manager, Eric Foglesong, going to a prosecutor to allege that Fernández had broken campaign-finance laws. The prosecutor was Orange-Osceola State Attorney Lawson Lamar. Lawson Lamar was a contributor to Bill Segal's 2008 re-election. The attorney for Mildred Fernandez said he wants Gov. Charlie Crist to remove Orange-Osceola State Attorney Lawson Lamar from his client's case because of political conflicts. Campaign manager, Eric Foglesong, is listed as a "confidential source" in recently released court records in the Fernández case. Fernández, who is charged with bribery, racketeering and campaign-related crimes, has denied any wrongdoing. Soon after her arrest, Fernández said powerful "special interests" she took on in the race had conspired with law enforcement to launch a "brutal character assassination." Bill Segal and Fernández were among five major candidates in the county mayor's race when Foglesong went to meet with Lamar. In the months leading up to her arrest on April 27, Fernández was a fierce Bill Segal critic, chiding him as a special-interest "darling." She attacked Bill Segal's attendance at No Name Club parties — free, men-only events co-organized by a major lobbyist and Bill Segal supporter where top-shelf liquor, food and cigars were served. When initially asked about the court records listing him as a "confidential source," Foglesong said he was "not listed as that, in this case," implying he was a source in another case, but he would not provide details.
