Sebastian Champappilly is an authority on Christian Law in India. He is the First Indian to secure a Doctorate in Christian Personal Law and presently he is the Special Government Pleader for Taxes in the High Court of Kerala and is the Director of Cochin School of Jurisprudence. Sebastian Champappilly has been an Advocate of the High Court of Kerala since 1985 He has several reported judgments to his credit and he is a leading lawyer in Family Law and Taxation Law matters especially divorce, succession, guardianship, adoption, probate of wills, maintenance, private international law, criminal law, constitutional law, service law. Academics He is a Post Graduate both in Law and Political Science. He was awarded Ph.D in Law in 1996 by the Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT) for his research work in Family Law. He was a part-time Lecturer in Govt. Law College, Ernakulam and a visiting Faculty in the School of Legal Studies (CUSAT) and in the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Cochin. He is a member of the Academic Council of the School of Legal Studies, CUSAT. He is a recognized Supervisor and Guide in the Ph.D Programme in Law of the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. His papers on “Marumakkathayam Law” and “Christian Law” have been published in the Oxford International Encyclopedia of Legal History by the Oxford University Press, New York.He has been invited to deliver lectures by the Directorate of Training, High Court of Kerala, while imparting Statutory Training to Munsiffs-Magistrates.
