Scott Oliaro was a student and football player at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. from 1988 to 1993. He was born in Lansing, Michigan and grew up in Williston, Vermont. In 1999 Sports Illustrated dubbed him the 42nd best athlete to ever come out of Vermont.
In 2007 he was named head athletic trainer at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, North Carolina) for field hockey and men's and women's golf. Scott has held the same position for softball at UNC since 1998. Scott was previously a trainer at American University (Washington, D.C.). He also served as a trainer for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League.
EDUCATION
Scott received his B.S. in Nutritional Sciences from Cornell's College of Human Ecology, graduating in 1993 (an injury having caused a delay in his graduation). In 1996 he received a Master's degree in Athletic Training from UNC.
IVY LEAGUE SINGLE GAME RUSHING RECORD (SINCE BROKEN)
On November 9, 1990, Oliaro set the Ivy League single game rushing record against Yale University, running for 288 yards (on 35 carries). Cornell won the game by a score of 41-31. Oliaro finished the game with 395 all-purpose yards. The previous Ivy League single game rushing record was held by another Cornellian, Ed Marinaro.
The record was broken one year later by Matt Johnson of Harvard University, who rushed for 323 yards against Brown University.
PERSONAL LIFE
Scott is married (Jeri) with one daughter (Mia Katherine Oliaro) and one son (Tyler Michael Oliaro). The family lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In addition to spending time with his family, Scott runs marathons and enjoys playing basketball, lacrosse and golf.
