Scott Mannion is an Australian film director and screenwriter born in Sydney, New South Wales. He is known for The Defector (2017) and Anima (2013). In 2016 Mannion enlisted Academy Award winning cinematographer Russell Boyd and AACTA winning Editor Matt Villa to create The Defector, a cold war spy thriller and the first drama to explore the disappearance of Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt in 1967. Anima had its international premiere at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival in France, its Australian television premiere on SBS, and its international television premiere on . Critical reception and media coverage Fairfax Media called The Defector "a cracking yarn" and "pure genre filmmaking". The Defector was also covered in IF, The New Daily, FilmInk, and Cinema Australia.
