Scott Mallon

Scott Mallon (born 15 October 1962), also known by his YouTube name An American in Bangkok, is an American author, photographer and journalist. From 2007-2012 he served as the Vice-President of the now defunct Top Rated Boxing Promotions and was one of the key figures in bringing professional boxing back to Singapore.
He has lived as an expat in Thailand since November 1995 where he has worked as a photojournalist, operated an online export business, and managed, trained, and acted as matchmaker for world-rated boxers Saddam Kietyongyuth, Suksaem Kietyongyuth, Padjai Yongyuthgym, Leon Moore, and former WBA World Super Featherweight Champion Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai.
In December 2015, he released his first book, They Call Me Farang: Short Stories by An American in Bangkok.
Early life
Scott Mallon was born in Coral Gables, Florida in the United States and graduated from Hialeah-Miami Lakes Sr. High School.
Personal life
Scott Mallon married Benjamas Chaichan of Surat Thani, Thailand in Bangkok, Thailand on August 8, 2002. The couple have two children, Alex (Born May 8, 2001) and Nicholas (Born November 12, 2002).
Career
Prior to moving to Thailand from Southern California at the age of 33, Mallon worked as a printing broker. In 2000, he co-starred in the romantic drama Jerks. In 2007, he acted as a consultant on the National Geographic documentary Boxing Behind Bars.
He has written and shot photographs for HBO Sports, the Bangkok Post, the Phuket Gazette, Ring Magazine, Boxing Digest, Boxing News, Fight News, The Fist, Black Belt Magazine, Irrawaddy Magazine, the Muay Lok as well as several other publications.
While working as a correspondent for The Sweet Science.com and Ring Magazine, Mallon traveled to Borneo, Indonesia to cover the world championship fight between Chris John and Juan Manuel Marquez. He was the lone western journalist to attend the fight and when John won a controversial unanimous decision, Marquez's team and various boxing outlets turned to him for his opinion of the decision. Mallon scored the bout 116-110 in favor of John.
He is a past member of the Boxing Writers Association of America, Ring Magazine’s Rating Panel, Yahoo’s Boxing Rating Panel and was formerly the editor of Asian Boxing News. In 2007, he received an honorary mention from the Boxing Writers Association of America for Investigative Reporting.
