Scott Foster

Daniel Scott Foster is a member of the City Council in Williamsburg, Virginia. Foster was elected in 2010 to a four-year term with the highest number of votes in Williamsburg history, and currently attends the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at The College of William and Mary.
Background
Foster grew up in Highland County, Virginia, and graduated from Highland County High School. His mother teaches kindergarten and his father is a station operator for Dominion Power. Foster graduated from William and Mary with a degree in Goverment.
2010 City Council Election
In 2010, Scott Foster, then a college senior, ran as a moderate in an election divided between pro-development and anti-growth candidates. He promised to work with both sides of that divide, and argued that the interests of college students intersected with what was best for Williamsburg as a whole. Campaigning to both students on the William and Mary campus and city residents, Foster was elected by an historic margin in a competitive 5-way race. Elected with Foster was businessman Doug Pons, who campaigned on a platform of business experience.
Although other William and Mary students had run for Williamsburg city council before, Foster was the first to acchieve broad community support. The regional daily newspaper, The Daily Press, endorsed Foster, saying that "Scott Foster is thoughtful and articulate." .
