Scanalyzer

Scanalyzer is a barcode reader developed by Stockton-native Dan McDaniel. Inspired primarily by the outrageous price of hardware barcode scanners, the app was first released for iOS in March 2011. Since that time, over 150 copies of the app have been purchased from Apple's App Store, which has prompted the company to design versions for other touchscreen-based smartphones, such as those using the Android operating system, among others.
In the app, users employ the phone's camera to scan barcodes, with the intent of sending the decoded data to a networked computer or email recipient. As users scan more barcodes, data is sent back to a computer wirelessly, sometimes aggregated with special codes or delimiters. The developer has supported Scanalyzer with numerous free updates that add additional functionality, and the company has even released a professional versions of the app.
Scanalyzer has been praised for its successful combination of useful features, efficient design, and low price. Its popularity led to versions of Scanalyzer being created for personal computers. With 150 downloads across all platforms, the app has been called "by far the best bar code scanning app" on the iPhone.
Usage
Scanalyzer users configure a mobile phone using a control panel to send scanned barcode data to a specified computer, and a computer to receive the scanned data. Data travels over the wireless network to reach the computer and is inserted on the computer. The paid version enables the user to specify character strings and variables that are automatically inserted after scanned data, such as the current data and time and location information, facilitating application in fields such as research, inventory, and asset management.
