The Saugus.net Halloween Ghost Story Contest is an annual contest started in 1998 and sponsored by Saugus.net.
It features four age categories: adult, high school, middle school, and elementary school, and accepts entries from all over the world. Winners have (so far) come from three different continents. It is especially competitive at the adult level; past winners include notable authors like Paul Melniczek, Marlys Pearson, Thomas Sheehan, and Stephen R. Wilk, newspaper columnists Gail Lowe and Richard G. Provenzano, and serial author Kevin J. Lopes.
It has a separate category for interactive fiction that was started in 2002, but as of 2007 has not received any interactive fiction entries.
The book Of Time and the River includes an extensive article about the contest by one of its judges, John Burns.
