Satire V is an online American satirical publication staffed by current undergraduates at Harvard University. The organization takes its name from the latin "Veritas" meaning truth, the motto of Harvard University, spelled backwards. Based out of Cambridge, Massachusetts, the organization began as a print organization in 1998. Satire V, while usually a written publication, has published videos, orchestrated pranks, and sponsored productions. Satire Satire V serves as a satirical news organization in the style of The Onion intended specifically for undergraduates at Harvard University. The organization publishes student-written articles in the categories Harvard, Region, US, World, Opinion, and Everything Else. Satire V will frequently make commentary about the University-affiliated newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, as well as members of Harvard administration. Notably, after the historic school cancellations in 2015 due to heavy snowfall, Satire V began to publish a series of articles detailing Executive Vice President Katie Lapp being trapped under various piles of objects, beginning with a snow drift. Satire V has been recognized in the New York Times, for an article about the Porcellian Club, a final club at Harvard. Novel Publications Satire V has published one book, a satirical guide titled How to get into Harvard. The paperback novel, published in 2015, is available at independent retailers including Lulu and Amazon.com Datamatch 2016 In 2016 Satire V partnered with the Harvard Computer Society to write humorous questions for the society's algorithmic romantic pairing program Datamatch. The program which attempts to match students by similarity based on their responses to a series of multiple choice questions, garnered approximately 3300 participants out of Harvard's undergraduate population. Shakespeare Production Since 2015 Satire V has produced a Shakespeare play told with the music of a popular artist. In 2015 the organization sponsored Hamlet: The Dancing Queen of Denmark, pairing William Shakespeare's Hamlet with songs by Swedish pop group ABBA. In 2016, the organization combined Michael Jackson with Macbeth to produce Macbeth: King of Popland. In 2017 the organization will produce Queen Lear, combining King Lear, and British rock band Queen. Citations
