Sanjay Shrenik Lalbhai (born 10 April 1954) is an Indian entrepreneur, educationist and the chairman of a $1.7 billion textile conglomerate, Arvind Limited. Alongside, he is also on the board of various educational and cultural institutions. He joined the Arvind group of companies in 1979, after completing his Master's in Business Management in 1977 from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. Education Sanjay Lalbhai attended Rachana High School, Ahmedabad for elementary education; whose mother Pannaben Lalbhai was the director of the school at that time. He did his Bachelors from St Xaviers with majors in statistics and mathematics. He completed his masters in business administration from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. Career Sanjay Lalbhai joined Arvind Limited in 1977 and was amongst the first companies to bring denim to the Indian market. He also partnered with various international brands which were later brought for retail to the Indian markets. Alongside, working to make a shift of the traditional textile business to a technology company; with steps taken as the 2017 demerger with the intention of making the individual companies self-sufficient. His estimated net worth is $1.1 billion. Alongside his sons Punit and Kulin; he is working on a garment operation in Ethiopia, providing ease for business in the US, China and Europe. Timeline 1970s-1990s Sanjay Lalbhai joined Arvind Mills in 1977. At the time when he joined Arvind Group of Companies, He had already kickstarted multiple businesses which were highly unrelated to each other. With Chintan Shah; a graduate from IIM Ahmedabad; he started a company named Amtrex, which later on went to sign up with Hitachi. Anagram Finance, Perfect Placement and Trikaya was among the 30-40 ventures that Lalbhai was running at that time. He became the CEO of Arvind Limited in 1987, two years after becoming the Managing Director of the same. 2000s-present He was trying to bring in the international brands to India, in a time when the clothes were only tailored. He brought in Arrow to India; with changing its image of polyester-cotton shirts to premium cotton shirts. He met executives from Gap, PVH, VF and many more. He was able to get and retain the licence of Tommy Hilfiger, along with the help of Mohit Murjani. After around three decades with Sanjay Lalbhai as the Managing Director, Arvind Fashion Brands Limited has brought various brands like Nautica, Sephora, Aéropostale, Flying Machine, Calvin Klein, Hanes, Gant and a lot more along with continuing with Tommy Hilfiger and Arrow. In 2017, he announced a demerger of Arvind Limited to Arvind Fashions; with its engineering business demerging to Anup Engineering Member of Council of Management; Physical Research Laboratory Chairman; CEPT University Chancellor & Chairman, Board of Governors; Ahmedabad University Ex-Chairman (up to 25-11-2016); Amol Dicalite Chairman; as on 2006; Tech Mahindra Ex-Director (26 July 2013) Torrent Pharma Awards and honours Sanjay Lalbhai was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India for his contribution for the growth of the Indian apparel export industry at the which took place in Mumbai, India in January 2018.
