Samuel Estes was originally born in Lumberton, NC as the youngest of nine children to Jackie and Rora Ann Estes. After the death of his mother Sam's father married Jo Ann Taylor, and moved the family to live in Romulus, MI. Sam excelled in academics and was recieving straigh A's throughout his elementry school education. By the age of 13 Sam was 6 feet tall and weighed over 210lbs. Sam performed so well that he was offered a full scholarship to play football at a private high school the following year at St. Martin DePores in Detroit, MI. Mr. and Mrs. Estes decided that Sam would not only be staying in the Romulus public school system, but that he would enter his first year in High School as purely an academic and not as a student athelete. Sam re-foccused his priorities on his school work at raised his gpa to a 3.7. After raising his gpa his parents decided that he could join his High school football team for his sophmore year. Sam played for the j.v. football team his sophmore year and was called up to play for the varsity team later on that year. He had a chance to block for Fred Russell (went on to play college football at Iowa, and play in the NFL) and took full advantage of the opportunity. Sam went on to recieve many awards through out his high school varsity football career.
