Sameep Kulkarni

Sameep Kulkarni is a noted sitarist from Pune, India. He is learning sitar and has been performing in India and the UK for the past 21 years.
Early life and background
Sameep started learning tabla at the age of three and sitar at the age of six. His initial sitar training was from Ustad Usman Khan, and he is currently learning from Ustad Shahid Parvez.
. He completed instrumentation and control engineering with distinction from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (V.I.T.), Pune and simultaneously could excel well internationally in music.
Career
Sameep has done more than 500 concerts in India and the UK.
Sameep has done concerts in India and in the UK for charity, orphanages, cancer patients and a blind school.
Sameep played the sitar for the American pop album Fantasy and some songs were selected for two Hollywood movies - Twisted Fortune and Baby Baby
His forte is Indian classical music in solo performances, but he has also teamed up to play in duets, trios, fusion concerts, pop, Bollywood and rock shows.
Sameep founded his own fusion music group called SAAZ and has done several concerts across India and abroad. Sameep has done a number of jugalbandhi concerts with various instruments like sarod, jaltarang, flute, mohan veena, guitar, mandolin, sarangi, synthesizer, saxophone, tabla, drums, violin, mridangam and also with vocal music.
'Musician's Guild', the music company based in Mumbai has released his solo classical album containing ragas shyamkalyan and khamaj.
Prizes
Sameep has won different prizes in total nineteen musical competitions held in India like Verve organized by Coca-Cola, Indradhanu organized by Pune Festival, Pandit Ram Marathe Musical Competitions organized by Shriranga Kalaniketan Talegaon, Firodiya Karandak organized by Sahamati Pune, Kalyani Karandak organized by B.J.Medical College, Mood Indigo organized by IIT Mumbai and Impulse organized by Unknown Waters Pvt. Ltd. and many more.
Performances and awards
Sameep has performed for a variety of prestigious festivals and organizations. He has won prizes in nineteen musical competitions held in India.
Apart from winning different prizes in the nineteen musical competitions, Sameep was awarded as The Best Instrumentalist by Verve Coca-Cola in the year 2003. He was also awarded as The Challenging Sitarist by Ganvardhan musical organisation in the year 2005. The turning point to his career was when he was awarded as The Best Artist In IT by Computer Society of India-Pune Chapter in the year 2007.Aperture India art gallary honored him with The Maestro with the felicitation in Pune in the year 2008. In the year 2009, he was interviewed and honored as The Orkut Hero by OrkutHeroes.com
Charity
Sameep has done many charity concerts for different organizations like 'CIPLA Palliative Care and Research Centre Pune- care centre for cancer patients, Aapla Ghar- care centre for orphanages, The Poona School & Home For the Blind Boys, fund raising concerts in London-UK for Hemalkasa charity project of Doctor Prakash Amte, Indian Welfare Forum in Birmingham-UK and many more.
