Sam Joshi

Sam Joshi is an American politician. He is the elected Council Vice President of Edison, New Jersey, the state's 5th largest municipality by population, with about 101,000 residents. He won with 11,827 votes in the November 2017 election and was sworn in on January 1, 2018. He was previously a town zoning board of adjustment member and also served on the fair rental housing authority from 2010 to 2014
Legislation and Politics
As a Councilman, Joshi's first major legislation was on food allergen awareness and restaurant protection laws. The law gained national attention as it was the first to require local restaurants to cite the common allergens. Joshi called for ethics and partisanship reform after noting that appointments were appointed without interviews or resumes and merely based on their political affiliation. The Council reversed their decision to appoint from 2-5 to 7-0 after his discussion.
Joshi was appointed to serve as the liaison to the Library Board of Trustees in 2018. The trustees initially rejected Joshi's request for financial documents which led to the township Council suspending funds to the library trustees which led to a year long political dispute. On June 5, 2020 the Joshi-led $3.1 million library expansion plan was submitted to New Jersey State Library Board.
