Salvatore Pacella

Dr. Salvatore Pacella (born 1973) is a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs reconstructive surgery to correct physical deformities. He also performs free surgeries for patients of nonprofit, Fresh Start Surgical Gifts.
Early years and medical career
Raised in Buffalo, New York, Salvatore J. Pacella is the grandson of an Italian immigrant. He accepted a full academic scholarship to St. Bonaventure University, he became a plastic surgeon during his first year after witnessing several plastic surgery cases in breast reconstruction that is provided for breast cancer survivors. After graduating in the top 20% of his class, he was selected for residency at the University of Michigan.
He was accepted into the Ross School of Business at The University of Michigan where he received an MBA concentrating in healthcare economics. During this time, he worked closely with the University of Michigan Health System to study the clinical outcomes of coordinated burn care at high volume hospitals as well as the economic impact of outpatient surgical procedures on health system profitability including nonprofit organizations such as Fresh Start Surgical Gifts.
After completion of this residency, Pacella attended two fellowships registered by The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Since 2011, he has served as the Division Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla and the Section Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for Scripps Green Hospital.
Fresh Start Surgical Gifts
Pacella is a volunteer surgeon for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, a nonprofit in San Diego that provides free reconstructive surgery to domestic and foreign children with birth defects, deformities or traumatic injuries. and in 2012 he received the Health Hero Award from the San Diego County Combined Health Agencies for his philanthropy work. As a practitioner, he was also recognized in the Patient’s Choice Awards in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
