About
Salon Institute started as a beauty school in Toledo, Ohio. With a success of its first location, a second beauty school was opened in Columbus, Ohio.
Unlike traditional beauty schools, Salon Institute offers unique class options that are tailored so that students can reach theirprofessional goals. The beauty school is designed to give students hands-on experience in a real working environment.This includes having students cut hair as soon as the second day of class.
The cosmetology program consists of 1,800 hours of work toward achieving an Advanced Cosmetology license, as well as 300 hours that focus on business management for students who would like to own and manage their own salons.
The full Advanced Cosmetology Program is designed to be completed in 54 weeks and includes training in:hair cutting, coloring and styling; skin care, facials, waxing, regular make up and airbrush make up class; nail tech courses; a business program.
More than 94% of students who took the Ohio Board of Cosmetology Exam passed the Ohio Cosmetology and Manager Exam in 2013.
Unique Beauty
While Salon Institute is a beauty school, it is also a fully functional upscale salon. This allows students to gain real world experience, as well as hands-on learning. Most students begin taking on clients after just three months of training.
There are also opportunities for students at both the Toledo and Columbus locations to put their talents on display at runway shows and model shoots. These portfolio-building opportunities can help students land future jobs and clients.
Charity and Business Relationships
In addition to offering hands-on training in a traditional salon setting, Salon Institute encourages students to participate in community events that support charities and organizations. The beauty school in Toledo regularly works with the University of Toledo, Relay for Life and Project Runway on special events, such as runway shows.
During these events, students are able to showcase their cosmetology skills while networking with potential clients and businesses. These events can often lead to jobs or clients after graduation.
Salon Institute also has a business relationship with TIGI, a cosmetology line that owns brands such as BED HEAD, Catwalk, , among others. Some have even nicknamed the beauty school “The TIGI school.”
