The Dark Horse Institute is a 12-week Audio Engineering/Music Production Program. Students receive hands on experience and develop skills in analog, digital and studio recording as well as learn the business side of the industry. The instructors are full-time professional engineers and producers. At the end of the program, students earn a Certificate of Completion signifying successful completion of the coursework. Program Material * Weeks 1 & 2: Introduction to Recording- Topics include console signal flow, types of microphones, , basic music theory, audio connections, trouble shooting, and studio maintenance. *Weeks 3 & 4: Analog Recording- Topics include analog tape machines, analog alignment, compression, equalization,outboard gear, microphone placement, analog mixing, and Neve flying fader console automation systems. *Weeks 5 & 6: Digital Recording- Topics include various types of digital formats and sample rates, the fundamentals of Work Clock, and how to transfer audio from various digital formats, the Otari Radar II and Pro Tools HD, the basics of the Apple Computer and maintenance. *Weeks 7 & 8: Pro Tools- Topics include set up of the hardware, configuration of the software, the various editing modes, the automation modes, and industry standard plug-ins like Beat Detective, Sound Replacer, Auto - Tune, and Melodyne. *Weeks 9 & 10: Business of Recording- Topics include the music business and application of knowledge to a full album project *Weeks 11 & 12: Studio Recording- recording, mixing, and mastering full album project Founder/Location thumb The program was founded by USA Today Best-Selling Author, speaker, and RCA recording artist Robin Crow. The recording school is located at Dark Horse Recording Studio in Franklin, TN. Dark Horse has been the recording home of Faith Hill, Ashley Judd, Neil Diamond, Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Michael W.
