SaFire

Sandra “SaFire” Sommerville (born October 26, 1983) is a Canadian circus and fire performer specializing in hula hoop dancing. She is also a motivational speaker, entrepreneur and educator, known for her online hooping community, and a viral video involving hoop dancing.
Beginnings
After being introduced to hoop dancing at Shambhala, SaFire made her first hula hoop and began practicing in November 2006. After graduating from the University of Lethbridge in December 2007 she abandoned her career plans of being a public school teacher to become a professional entertainer. Soon after she made a series of hooping tutorials and built an online following on YouTube. Her first demo video was nominated for best hooping video of the year by Hooping.org and won her $10,000 from Clipstar's talent search contest.
Building community
On January 18, 2009, SaFire created an online community for hoopers called Hoop City. Within months it became the largest online community for hoopers and won her a Woman of the Year award. In the summer of 2009 SaFire and fellow entertainer Carisa Hendrix created the first annual object manipulation conference in Western Canada called "Light and Motion", which runs annually.
