Sachin Ketkar is a writer and translator writing in Marathi and English. He works as Associate Professor in English at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat, India. Biography Sachin Ketkar is a Maharashtrian writer, translator and university teacher born and brought up in Gujarat. He was born in Valsad in 1972. According to Dilip Chitre, Ketkar is a 'distinctive new voice as a bi-lingual (Marathi and English) poet, and a sensitive translator of the work of his contemporaries. He also has an original perspective as a translator critic'. Hemant Divate writes 'Sachin is one of the most unusual talents in contemporary Marathi poetry today. He is also one of the best young translators and critics in Marathi today'. Jarasandhachya Blogvarche Kahi Ansh (2010) and Bhintishivaichya Khidkitun Dokavtana(2004) are his collections of Marathi poetry. A Dirge for the Dead Dog and Other Incantations is his collection of poems in English.He has edited and translated An Anthology of Recent Marathi poetry. He says that his poetry is 'influenced by the international modernist poetics, and is marginal in the mainstream of Marathi poetry which is socialist realist, if it is not sentimental and popular' and that it attempts to ,'confront innovatively the new cultural material of the globalized Third World society.' He has translated fiction and poetry from Marathi and Gujarati into English and from English into Marathi. He has translated around hundred compositions of Narsinh Mehta, the fifteenth century Gujarati poet. He has also translated short stories of Gujarati short stories like Nazir Mansuri. He has recently published a collection of essays on translation studies from an Indian perspective titled, ' (Trans) Migrating Words: Refractions on Indian Translation Studies', VDM Publishers, Oct. 2010. ( See bibliography) He holds a doctorate in translation studies and works as Associate Professor at the Department of English at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda , Vadodara. He is also on the Board of Honorary Editors for New Quest, a journal for participatory cultural enquiry in Mumbai.
