Ryan Stephen Barr is an English actor, of both stage and screen, best known for his role in Channel 4’s award winning British soap opera Hollyoaks. He has also had featured roles in popular TV drama's Shameless, This Is England 88 and Waterloo Road. Career Ryan Barr is an English actor best known for his recurring roles in acclaimed television series such as Hollyoaks and Shameless. He has also starred in several theatre productions and appeared in several English sitcoms and soap operas. Ryan began his career early when he was discovered at age 9 in an introduction to Sam Chisnell, actor and director of theatre productions. They met during Ryan’s visit to PRC Accompanied and have formed a deep and productive working bond ever since. Sam Chisnell helped Ryan in his debut performance in a theatrical production of the Wizard of Oz in 2006. Since Ryan’s theatrical debut, they have worked closely on several additional theatrical productions such as Aladdin, Dick Wittington, and Alice in Wonderland. While Ryan sharpened his acting skills in theatre with Sam, he was introduced to the Directors of the The Musical Theatre Company (TMTC). After seeing his exciting work on stage TMTC quickly signed on Ryan as a member and worked with him to expand his acting experience and bring light to his growing body of work. Ryan quickly became a respected and important cast member as a part of the TMTC. Since signing with the TMTC, Ryan has built up his career and talent through hard work in a variety of stage productions including Oliver Twist and Happy Families. But never satisfied with the status quo, Ryan decided to push beyond state productions and began looking for roles and opportunities to grow in television and film. Ryan quickly joined the UK’s acclaimed agency, EKA/ Euro Kids, which gave him the skills and experience necessary to become a skilled actor. EKA helped Ryan as he completed a rigorous two-week course with the National Theatre in London. After this course, Ryan was cast for a small role in A Small Family Business; a Liverpool based feature film directed by Kelly Taylor. Ryan then really started to catch eyes with his acting skills including the eyes of Max Cooke. Ryan was cast as the main character, Roy Rushton, in Max Cooke’s film; My Lover’s Broken Heart. This was only the beginning of Ryan’s start in television and led to Ryan getting noticed by producers around the UK. Since his break out role, Ryan has taken on roles in several well-known soap operas. These include Hollyoaks, This Is England and Waterloo Road. Ryan also appeared in the award winning television sitcom Bad Education. These roles have given him a chance to expand his career and make his talent known in the UK community. But Ryan still holds a love of theatre in his heart and has continued to perform in several touring theatre groups across the UK. These performances include leading roles in The Jersey Boys, The Wizard and Oz and The King and I. Ryan’s body of work continues to grow as he has been cast as a recurring character on acclaimed television series; Shameless. He continues to perform and expand on a wide breadth of work from theatre, to television sitcoms and feature film. Ryan looks forward to beginning work on a new horror film Deep Water.
