RuneScape weaponry

RuneScape weaponry comes in many different forms, and can be categorised as either melee, magic, or ranged. The weaponry in RuneScape is varied and complex, with several variations of sometimes a single item.

Melee-related weaponry
The melee weapons in RuneScape are unique and diverse. They are usually made from the eight common metals in the game (but not always): bronze, iron, steel, black, mithril, adamant, rune and dragon. Some are even magic-based. There are also weapons that are made from granite, crystal, or obsidian, and some weapons that are unique in their materials, for example the Abyssal Whip.

Melee weapons are judged on three factors: speed, strength, and accuracy. Speed determines how often the wielder of the weapon can attack while using that weapon. There are four basic speed groupings, and all weapons in one speed group are close in speed. Speed remains constant no matter what metal the weapon is made of. Weapons considered fastest are daggers, short swords, scimitars, claws, and the Abyssal Whip. Weapons of medium speed include spears, long swords, hatchets, maces, and pickaxes. Slow weapons include warhammers and battleaxes. Very slow weapons are two-handed swords, halberds, and mauls. Strength is another major factor with weapons, because it determines how much damage a weapon hits. Slower weapons tend to be stronger, so the best weapon is one with a good balance of speed and strength, like the scimitar, which has medium strength but fast speed. Weapons made of a better metal have better strength. The final factor that determines the power of a weapon is its accuracy. A more accurate weapon will deal damage more often. Weapons made of a better metal will be more accurate, and stronger weapons also tend to be more accurate than weaker, but faster, weapons of the same metal.

Abyssal Whip (Members Only)
The Abyssal Whip's special attack is very accurate and will drain 10% Run Energy from a player target if it hits. When first released, the special was criticised for being weak and ineffective against NPCs. The abyssal whip is also considered to be one of the most powerful weapons in RuneScape. The whip can be obtained from a particular breed of demon which requires a high slayer level to kill, called an abyssal demon. Or you could obtain this item by trading with other players. You must have 70 attack to wield this weapon. The Abyssal Whip has one real weakness: the only attack style it can use is Slash, and melee player armour carries significant defence bonuses against Slash attacks. However, it is a very accurate one-handed weapon which does a large amount of damage even against plate armour, and can be very effective against rangers and mages. The whip can only train strength in a very limited manner, and this is by using the "Controlled" option, which splits experience by giving 1.33xDamage experience to attack, strength, defence, and hitpoints. Another advantage is that it does not need to be repaired, unlike the barrows weapons. The biggest advantage of that the whip has, is its speed. The speed of the Abyssal Whip matches that of daggers and the widely used scimitar, only beaten in speed by a ranger's shortbow, crossbow and throwing knives/darts. Many believe that it is overpowered, though the majority of higher leveled players use this weapon. The main reason why most members use this weapon is because it is effective and cheap. To non-members this weapon is expensive, but to members it is a great weapon. This is most commonly used with rune defenders, and dragon or barrows armour.

The Godsword (Members only)we have no picture sorry

One of the most powerful weapons in RuneScape is the Godsword. On August 28, 2007, Jagex released a new area called the God wars Dungeon. Here, players were able to obtain the Godsword by killing monsters in the area. In order to obtain it, players have to collect all 3 godsword shards, which are dropped by the boss monsters in the area. Then, players had to obtain a hilt for the godsword. There are 4 kinds of hilts. The most powerful is the Armadyl hilt, then Saradomin, Bandos, Zamorak. The different hilts give the godsword a different special attack. The attack, speed, and strength stats of the godsword are determined by the hilt. After all the parts have been obtained, players can then smith the parts together given they have the required "smithing" level. If not, players can interact with a certain NPC to get the completed godsword for them. The godsword is a two handed weapon, and is faster than most two handed weapons in RuneScape, which adds to it's power.

Barrows Equipment (Members only)
Please note the special bonuses only happen if the user has the full armour and weaponary of the barrows. For example, for Verac's to hit through armour and pray you must have the skirt, brassard, helm and flail. If you have the weapons without the armour the weapons are not as powerful, as shown in the Dharok's and Verac's sets.

*Torag's Hammers
**Torag's Hammers of the Torag the Corrupted's set. The cheapest of the Barrows weapons, they are quite unspectacular. The bonus for the entire set is draining 20% run energy if succesful. They have a very high crush bonus, which should make them very useful against plated enemies, but they hit quite low. The Abyssal Whip (regarded by many as the best RuneScape weapon due to its high damage-per-minute count) hits higher, even though its Slash style is usually very weak against plated enemies. They are undoubtedly the runt of the Barrows litter, but some players use them as a badge of honour when they reach 70 attack and strength, but wearing them as a badge of honor also comes with some ridicule. As weapons go, they are too weak and innacurate to be feared like the Whip or Great Axe.

*Guthan's Warspear
**Guthan's Warspear is part of Guthan the Infested's Set. As one of one of the most desired weapons in RuneScape, the full Guthans' set has the ability to drain opponent's health and add it to the wielder's own, so if the wielder hits a 21 he or she will gain 21 at certain times. Because of this draining ability, players can train without any food for an extended amount of time. However, this weapon is at a disadvantage when it comes to training, as it has 3 "Controlled" attacks, and 1 "Defensive" attack, making attack and strength training nearly impossible.

*Verac's Flail
**Verac's Flail is part of Verac the Defiled's set. Its attacks are brutal and sometimes hit as if the opponent has no armour or prayer when equipped along with the rest of Verac's set. Unlike every other full set of melee armour, it uses a manica (dubbed a brassard in RuneScape) instead of a platebody. It is strong and is commonly used in both PvP and battling prayer-using monsters such as the Kalphite Queen, because of the prayer bonus it provides. (Different from that of other Barrows sets.)

*Karil's Crossbow
**The Karil's crossbow is incredibly fast and powerful. Its special effect is reducing the targets agility by 20%. It has the attack speed of a magic shortbow and its power rivals a Crystal Bow. However, unlike other crossbows, Karil's crossbow cannot use bolts. Instead, it utilises bolt racks, which may be obtained as a Barrows reward or purchased from other players or in Port Phasmatys. A distinct disadvantage of bolt racks is that, unlike arrows, they are not reusable; they vanish upon hitting the ground.

*Ahrim's Staff
**Ahrim's Staff is part of Ahrim the Blighted's set, it is useful both for magic casting and melee fighting. The passive ability of full Ahrim armour is 'Blighted Aura' which has a random chance of lowering the enemies strength, making it useful against melee players. However Ahrim's staff does not represent any form of runes. Its inability to auto-cast Ancient Magicks, the most powerful set of magical spells available to Members, combined with the equal magic attack bonus as an Ancient Staff, causes many players to disregard the 'Blighted Aura' set effect for the Ancient Staff and another wieldable shield, defender, or book to give additional stat bonuses that are negated when utilizing Ahrim's Staff.

*Dharok's Greataxe
**Dharok's Greataxe is easily the most preferred Barrows weapon. It is also the most powerful weapon in the game of RuneScape due to its extremly high hits; a player with 70+ strength (the requirements to wield the Great Axe are 70 Attack and Strength) wearing a range of power boosting items including the Dharok's set can hit 70+. With the right situation and equipment a player could theoretically hit a massive 80 damage in one blow, although due to the highly specific circumstances, the possibility of this happening is almost nil. The Greataxe offers the highest slash, crush and strength bonuses in Runescape and is considerably cheaper than the Whip. The ability of full Dharok is 'Wretched Strength', which increases the power of your hits as your HP lowers. If your current HP is 10% or less than your maximum, your strength is increased by 100%. However, some players prefer the Whip because it is faster, and it doesn't have to be repaired. Using this set, you can hit a maximum of 110+.

Battleaxes and Warhammers

Battleaxes and warhammers are similar weapons that are generally grouped together. The warhammer is not particularly popular amongst RuneScape players, but the battleaxe is fairly popular. The battleaxe is sometimes used in the wilderness on the non-members worlds because it has a combination of Crush and Slash attacks. Comparably, the Warhammer exhibits better attack statistics than a Battleaxe, but can only be used with a Crush attack, restricting it and making it less popular. Both of these weapons have a huge crush bonus making them extremely effective against heavy plate armour. The disadvantage of these weapons is their slow attack speed. The Dragon Battleaxe's special attack ("Rampage") will lower a player's attack, ranged, defence, and magic stats while boosting their strength statistic by 16 levels. A common tatic used by players is to use the Dragon battle axe's special effect and then quickly equip a more powerful and quicker weapon such as the Greataxe or Abyssal whip. A dose of a super restore potion will usually almost completely counteract the loss of stats caused by the special attack.

Claws (Members Only)
Claws can be smithed after completing the Death Plateau Quest. Claws are comparable to daggers in attack, accuracy, and speed, and they provide a reasonable Defence bonus, but have a few drawbacks. Because they are two-handed, a shield or prayer book cannot be equipped at the same time. They are also more expensive, as the higher quality versions require a higher level to smith. They also tend not to be very powerful. These disadvantages make them quite an unpopular weapon. Rune claws are the only claws that have a special attack. They are one of only two Rune weapons with a special attack - "Impale". It is more powerful and more accurate, although slower, than a normal attack.

Daggers
Daggers are the fastest attacking melee weapons in RuneScape (tied with scimitars and whips), and can be poisoned. Dragon Daggers can be obtained in Zanaris and were introduced a short while after Dragon Longswords. Dragon Daggers with varying levels of poison are often used as a backup weapon for rangers and mages in the Wilderness, and as extremely effective finishers for melee pures. The special attack of the Dragon Dagger, "Puncture", consists of two quick strikes at the opponent, with slightly increased accuracy and damage. When fighting a good pure at higher combat levels, be prepared for damage surpassing 30 with each strike of the special attack. Daggers tend to be better against chainmail and lighter armour, although they will cut through plate armor worn by players with low defense. Players can poison daggers with potions, made in herblore, to deal added damage. The new poison from farming "Super poison" is popular on Dragon daggers, as it makes them a powerful weapon.

The recently released Bone dagger is bought from the cave where the bone club and spear are found, but is a weak weapon unless the "Death To The Dorgeshuun" quest has been completed, in which case the special attack "Backstab" is permitted for use. This special attack will always hits an unsuspecting monster or player and will reduce their defence level by the number of hit points lost.

Defenders (Members only)
This weapon is a relatively new weapon to RuneScape and is a long dagger held in place of a shield or prayer book. Defenders provide an attack and defence bonus, but not as much defence as a equivalent shield would. The defence bonuses come from the fact that, due to the long blade, Defenders can be used to parry blows. Defenders better than steel provide a strength bonus. Defenders can only be obtained by progressing through the . The design for the Defender has been based on the 'Main-Gauche' used in fencing, which is a long dagger-type weapon used to parry incoming attacks. Defenders are currently alongside with the abyssal whip as a popular item for people to take into the wilderness mainly due to the large attack and strength bonuses that it provides.

Halberds (Members only)

After completing the Regicide quest, members are able to buy and wield Dragon Halberds from the Quartermaster's shop in Tyras Camp, but you can still purchase halberds from other players and wield them up to the rune halberd. The basic halberds can be resold to players who have not completed the quest, but the quest must be completed to wield the Dragon Halberd. All Halberds are two - Handed Weapons. Halberds are very slow, but have a major advantage over other melee weapons in that they can attack an opponent two squares away, including diagonally, and even through or over some obstacles, such as fences and tables, keeping the opponent from retaliating.
The Dragon Halberd is a powerful weapon, with almost as high a strength bonus as the Dragon 2-Handed Sword (though the Godsword is the strongest weapon). The Dragon Halberd's special attack ("Sweep") is a devastating slash through your opponent. For large monsters (taking up more than one unit square), the halberd will automatically sweep forth and back once to do extra damage. If there are three small monsters side by side, the special attack will hit them all once, so long as players are in a multi-combat zone. The slow attack of the halberd leads to slower training, but not having to use food and being able to attack monsters that would normally be impossible is a definite advantage. The halberd's only attack styles are "defensive", "controlled", and "strength", which makes it unsuitable if players wish to raise their attack or combined levels at a faster rate.

Longswords
Longswords are weapons that balance strength with speed. Longswords as well as short swords are not used much in Runescape anymore. They are cheap but most people use, battleaxes, scimitars, and 2h's in the free world. Dragon Long Swords however, are one of the most used weapon in the game. They can be obtained in Zanaris or by trading other player. It was also the first ever Dragon weapon. The special attack of the Dragon Longsword is called "Cleave". This attack is more powerful than the normal attack, and it inflicts increased damage. Dragon longswords are still, along with the whip, one of the most common weapons seen in RuneScape. The rune longsword's stats are slightly higher than that of a scimitar's; all longswords having a better stabbing attack than rune scimitars.

Maces
The Mace is similar to the Longsword, but it uses a "Crush" style of attack and is slightly less accurate. However, these weapons are unique in that they have a prayer bonus so that the player's prayer will last longer. The Dragon Mace can be obtained in the Hero's Guild (members only) after completing the Hero's quest. Though a relatively inaccurate weapon, the Dragon Mace's special attack ("Shatter"), is much more powerful than a normal attack, albeit having a reduced chance to hit. Such attack makes it one of the strongest weapons in RuneScape, as players are able to hit up to a maximum of 52 hitpoints damage with it while using potions, prayer, or bonus-giving jewelery along with it, and of course, have maximum strength. The mace is often used by player killers and in the duel arena because of its strong special attack. Despite these useful effects, maces in all their forms remain one of the most unpopular types of weapon in the game.

Mauls (Members Only)
Four different mauls exist in RuneScape, the Granite Maul, the Gadderhammer, the TzHaar-Ket-Om (obsidian maul), and the Meat Tenderiser. Mauls are crushing weapons similar to warhammers and they are held using both hands. They provide a large strength bonus, though this is countered by the slow rate of attack achieved when using them. Players can sometimes be confused when they realise that the Granite maul offers similar stats to the Whip. However mauls are slower and weaker.

Scimitars
Scimitars are slashing weapons with a rapid attack speed. Because of their high slash combat bonus, scimitars are very powerful against light armour, and therefore are very popular. The Dragon Scimitar can be obtained on Ape Atoll after completing the Monkey Madness Quest for 100,200gp (100k). Almost immediately after its release, the Dragon Scimitar became the second most popular melee weapon of choice in the wilderness, behind the Abyssal Whip. This is in part due to the Dragon Scimitar's special attack: "Sever". This attack is more accurate than the normal attack, and, if successful, will prevent the user's opponent from using protection prayers for 5 seconds. A mage with a Dragon Scimitar is a deadly foe: by snaring an opponent, the usual response is to switch the "Protect from Magic" prayer on. By using the "Sever" attack, the foe is left trapped and open to attack. This is usually followed by a series of God Spells or other high powered attacks.
It is fast and can attack with medium damage attacks. You can also obtain up to mithril scimitars at Al Kharid "Zeke's scimitar shop".

Short Swords
Short Swords are uncommonly seen among players because they are a weaker weapon than the longsword. It is basicly the same as a longsword exept cheaper and less accurate. The rate of attack is only slightly higher than that of a longsword so it is overlooked by the longsword's greater slash bonus. Their accurate attack style is not far behind, however, so they are sometimes used to train the attack skill. Also, since they're less expensive than longswords, newer players may use a short sword if they can't afford a longsword. Currently there is no Dragon short sword. Jagex seems to have no interest in making a dragon short sword. As well as they have no dragon kiteshield.

Spears (Members Only)

Spears are obtained from either monster drops, by completing the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio stick quest, or by purchasing them from the shop. They hit at the same speed as a Longsword. Spears can be poisoned with normal weapon poisons or a "Karambwan Poison", which is more potent and can only be used on spears. Although they can only be used to train controlled and defensive attacks, spears are still arguably the most flexible weapons in the game, as they are the only weapon to use Stab, Crush, and Slash attack styles. Spears are rarely used to train or in the wilderness.
The Dragon Spear, which resembles a trident more than a spear, is one of the most expensive Dragon weapons, behind only to the Dragon Hatchet, Dragon Halberd and Dragon Two-Handed sword (because of their releases being more recent). This is due to it only being obtainable from monster drops. The special attack for the Dragon Spear ("Shove") stuns your opponent for 4 seconds so he/she can't move and is moved one square away from your character.

Two-handed Swords
The Two-handed Sword is the slowest yet most powerful weapon in the free-to-play melee weapon line. Unfortunately, this is its only advantage. Since two hands are needed to wield these weapons, shields or prayer books cannot be equipped. Two-handed swords and other two-handed weapons in general can be used to deliver a knockout blow in the wilderness. It is not uncommon to see a free world pker start with a scimitar, only to switch to the two handed sword when his or her adversary is at low health to deliver tremendous damage. This tactic is especially effective due to an interesting effect of switching from a fast to a slow weapon. The first strike immediately after switching to a slow weapon will be delivered at the same speed as the faster weapon you previously had equipped. Keep in mind that the reverse is also true; switching to a fast weapon from a slow weapon will result in a strike at the speed of the slower weapon. The Dragon Two-handed Sword can be obtained by the killing of the Chaos Elemental or killing the Kalphite Queen and is regarded as one of the most expensive weapons to buy due to its rarity.

Magic-Related Weapons
"Mages" have a limited yet potent range of weaponry to select from in order to cast a range of magic spells. The Staffs they do have are a standard staff and the Four Elemental Staves, Air, Fire, Earth and Water. These come in Normal, Battlestaves, and Mystic Battlestaves. Other Staves that exist are the Mud Staff, the Lava Staff, the steam staff, the Dramen Staff, the Lunar Staff, and the Ancient Staff. The ancient staff is the only staff that allows Autocasting of "Ancient Magicks". The other Staves are the Saradomin, Zamorak and Guthix Staves, which cast the corresponding God spell. Also available are the Iban and Slayer Staves which each are used to cast specific spells (Iban Blast and Magic Dart). The Lava, Steam, and Mud Staves can be enchanted to Mystic. Elemental staves grant unlimited runes of that kind while wielded, and lava staves give unlimited fire and earth, while mud grants infinite water and earth, and steam grants infinite fire and water. There are also wands which can be obtained as rewards from the Mage Training Arena, these give higher magic bonuses than staffs and can autocast attack spells, but do not grant unlimited use of runes.

Ancient Magicks (Members Only)
The ancient magicks is a different set of spells accessible once the quest "Desert Treasure" has been completed. The new set of spells takes place of the original set of spells in the spell book interface. They come in four types of attacks; shadow, blood, smoke, and ice. They also come in four types of attack styles: rush, burst, blitz, and barrage. Rush and blitz are single-target attacks, while burst and barrage are multi- target attacks that can only be used in a multi-combat area. Shadow attacks drain the opponent's attack level by the percentage corresponding to the attack, and also does damage. Blood attacks drain the opponent's hit points, and 25% of the damage dealt is added to the caster's hit points. Smoke attacks deal damage and poison the target. Ice attacks, arguably the most useful type of attack, prevent the opponent from moving for a given amount of seconds depending on the style of the attack. Though the opponent is unable to move, the opponent can still use range/mage attacks. Ancient magic spells, like all magic spells, are highly effective against melee armor, but very weak against range armor.

Ranger-related weaponry
Players who prefer to engage in Ranging their opponents have a diverse array of weaponry to choose from and to utilise.

Bows and arrows
Bows and arrows are the most popular ranged weapons in RuneScape. Both of these can be fletched by members. Non-members can buy bows in the Archery Shops in Varrock, Rimmington or from other players. Arrows can also be purchased from the Archery Shops, grand exchange, or received from monster drops.

The Magic Longbow's special attack is "Powershot". This attack uses a little less then half power of the longbow so that the chances of hitting your opponent are greatly increased. The Magic Shortbow's special attack is "Snapshot". This attack allows you to fire two rapid shots at your opponent; however, the speed reduces your accuracy.

Ogre Bows and arrows (Members Only)
The Ogre Bow is an item specific to the Big Chompy Bird Hunting Quest. It is used to kill Chompy Birds, a species native to the Feldip Hills, and is the only weapon other than the Ogre Composite Bow that can kill them. The bow is obtained from Rantz, the relatively friendly Ogre that introduces you to Chompy Bird Hunting. The only arrows that can be used with this bow are the appropriately named Ogre Arrows. These are made from chiseled Wolf bone tips, Achey tree shafts, and feathers and can only be made by players. Ogre Bows and arrows can be used to kill monsters other than Chompy Birds, but they are extremely slow and comparatively weak.

Composite Ogre Bows and arrows (Members Only)
After completing the Zogre Flesh Eaters quest, members are able to fletch a Composite Ogre Bow. This bow can be used with normal Ogre Arrows or Brutal Arrows. Brutal arrows are made similarly to ogre arrows, except the tips are made from Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamantite, or Rune nails. Brutal Arrows differ from normal or ogre arrows in that they use a crushing attack instead of a stabbing attack. Brutal arrows are also the most effective weapon against Zogres and Skogres, undead Ogres found in the Zogre Flesh Eaters quest. Other forms of attack may be used, but is not recommended due to their high defence.

Crystal Bow (Members Only)
The Crystal Bow can be obtained after completing the Roving Elves quest. The Crystal bow requires no arrows for ammunition, but rather has 2500 magical charges. It requires both level 70 Ranged and level 50 Agility to wield. When the charges are used up, the bow reverts to a seed that can be recharged in Tirannwn for a fee.
The first bow you get, which is free, has only a 2/10 charge, which will only allow 500 shots before the next recharge, but every subsequent bow will have a capacity of 2500 shots.

Crystal bows can only be traded when the weapon has just been bought and never used. It is among the most popular weapons in the game thanks to its looks and power.

Crossbows and bolts
Crossbows, unlike short bows and longbows, can be wielded and used in one hand, allowing a shield or other protective item to be wielded at the same time. These advanced weapons can inflict greater damage than a bow of the same material and with a missile of the same material, due to their mechanical firing action and the weight of crossbow bolts. This is countered by a slower speed. Members can make crossbows ranging from bronze to rune using the fletching and smithing skills. Other variations include:
* Crossbow: Ordinary crossbow. This item can be bought at the archery shop in Varrock.
* Phoenix Crossbow: Mostly the same as an ordinary one other than it is normally cheaper and is used in a quest.
*Dorgeshuun Crossbow: It is a crossbow made out of bone and available in the Dorgeshuun mines where you may purchase it. Once you complete the "Death to the Dorgeshuun" quest you unlock its special attack Snipe, which lowers the targets defence level by the amount you hit.
*Blurite Crossbow: A crossbow made with blurite, like the blurite sword of the Knight's Sword quest.
*Bronze, iron, steel, mithril, adamant, and runite crossbows in weakest to strongest order
Only bronze bolts are available to non-members, but members can attach bolt tips and gem bolt tips to the bolts to make them more powerful.
* Bolts: Just like arrows, bolts can also be made into bronze bolts, iron bolts, etc. Also, they can be enchanted using the magic skill so that they give spectacular effects when used (the special attacks given by the enchanted bolts are self activated and can be random, some players believe that the better crossbow you have, the more often the special attack happens)

* Opal bolts: Opal bolt tips can be crafted by using a chisel on a cut opal. They can be enchanted, giving them "Lucky Lightning". This randomly does extra damage to an enemy by striking them with lightning bolts.

* Blurite bolts: Blurite bolts are made by hammering blurite bars into bolt form, each bar giving ten bolts. They can be equipped with jade bolt tips, which can be enchanted with "Earth's Fury" which knocks enemies to the ground, impeding their attacks and movement for a set amount of time
* Pearl bolts: Pearl bolt tips can be crafted by using a chisel on pearls, which can be caught while fishing with a big net or dropped by various monsters. They can be enchanted with "Sea Curse" which damages the enemy with a bolt of water hitting them.
*Emerald bolts: Emerald bolt tips can be crafted by using a chisel on an emerald if you have a fletching level of 58. They can then be enchanted with "Magical Poison" which causes the bolts to have the same effect as if they were poisoned with super-poison. The poison has an increased rate of being inflicted.
* Barbed bolts: Barbed bolt tips can be bought from the ticket merchant in Ranging Guild.
* Bone bolts: Bolts made from bone. They are the ammo for the dorgeshuun crossbow.
* Bolt racks: Bolt racks can be bought from a man at the docks of Port Phasmatys or received from the Barrows. These will only function with Karil's Crossbow.

Seercull bow (Members Only)
The Seercull Bow can be obtained by killing any of the Dagannoth Kings on Waterbirth Island. Its special attack is "Soulshot". This attack reduces your opponent's Magic level by the amount of damage you inflict. For example, if a player deals 15 damage to their opponent, the opponent's Magic level will temporarily decrease by 15 levels. Because a player's Magic level is also determinate of their resistance to magic attacks, a player who successfully executes this special with high damage can actually change their method of attack to that of magic to finish or stun the opponent using whatever means they prefer.

Dark Bow (Members Only)
The Dark Bow is incredibly slow at firing arrows, but the Dark Bow fires two arrows at once, and it can use dragon arrows. It has two special attacks, depending on your choice of arrows.

One-handed ranged weapons (Members Only)
One-handed ranged weapons are one-handed so that a shield or Prayer book can also be wielded:

*Throwing knives are poisonable, and can be forged by players from Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamantite, and Rune. Each metal bar yields five Throwing Knives. Black Throwing Knives are only dropped by Shadow Warriors ,Imperial Guard members, and cyclopes in the warrior's guild.
*Holy water is a very powerful weapon against demons; they pack a similar punch to that of the Dragon Battleaxe, and are quickly thrown. The huge downside is the difficulty required to make holy water: the vials have to be enchanted, special pure water gathered and then blessed, all inside the Kharazi Jungle. Most players prefer to use a bow against demons, if they refuse to use magic or melee attacks.
*Darts can be forged from Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamantite, and Rune. Each metal bar yields ten Dart Tips. Darts can be poisoned and are stackable. Black Darts are available but cannot be smithed by players. Darts can only be made after completing the Tourist Trap quest.
*Javelins are stackable and made out of Bronze, Iron, Steel, Black, Mithril, Adamantite, and Rune. Javelins can be found as drops from defeated monsters and can also be purchased inside the Ranging Guild. Javelins are notoriously slow and are generally considered to be the most unpopular out of the one-handed Ranging weapons.
*Throwing Axes come in Bronze, Iron, Steel, Black, Mithril, Adamantite, and Rune. They can only be bought from a shop in the Ranging Guild. The Rune Throwing Axe has a special attack ("Chain Hit") that, when activated in a multicombat zone with multiple enemies nearby, will bounce from enemy to enemy up to 5 times.
* The Toktz-Xil-Ul or "Obsidian Ring" is a members-only weapon that looks like a type of throwing ring. They are obtained from the weapons shop inside the TzHaar city for 375 TokKul (TzHaar currency) each. The Toktz-Xil-Ul have attack settings similar to Throwing Knives and appear to be the most powerful of the one-handed Ranging weapons in the entire game. They are equal in speed and power to a Magic Shortbow with Rune arrows. They do not have a special attack and cannot be poisoned. They are stackable items, and give the same bonus as a Magic Shortbow does.

Dwarf Multicannon (Members Only)
The Dwarf Cannon is a very powerful range weapon that can only be used upon the completion of the Dwarf Cannon quest. It consists of four parts (Base, Stand, Barrel, Furnace) and uses cannonballs as ammunition. Cannonballs are made from steel bars and each bar makes 4 Cannonballs.
To use the Cannon, a player must set up all four pieces on the floor and load it with up to 30 cannonballs. The cannon will rotate, attacking all monsters within range. This feature is very useful in multi-combat areas. Cannons are regarded as a fast but expensive way of gaining ranging experience points. However, if the cannon is used against some of RuneScape's most powerful monsters, they will destroy it. If the Cannon is left to continuously fire (i.e. it is reloaded before it runs out of ammo) over time it will begin to wear down and eventually will "decay". The player will receive a warning message that this is about to happen. But by picking it up and setting it back down again, players can prevent the cannon from decaying. Should the Cannon decay, players can return to the Dwarf Engineer it was purchased from to obtain a free replacement. Also, if a player dies while the cannon is set up, they will be able to get a new one. If the cannon is in the inventory, however, you must buy a new one. Cannons cannot be used to attack other players under any circumstances. The Dwarf multicannon does not have a ranged level requirement in order to use.

The Dwarf Multi-Cannon is famous as well as unusual in that it damages any enemy, even those being attacked by other players in a multi-combat zone, which leads to irritation at the owner of the Multi-cannon. Damage inflicted by the cannon is added to the damage caused by the player attacking an NPC, enabling players with cannons to inflict considerable amounts of damage in a short period.

Special Attacks

Normally, it is a stronger or more accurate attack, a more powerful strike, or two hits at once, but sometimes, it can give a temporary power boost to the player who uses the special attack or drain levels or energy from the target.

The special attack is accessed by a special bar under the combat interface. Each time a special attack is used, the special bar is drained a certain amount determined by the weapon used to execute the attack. If there is not enough power left in the special attack bar, the player cannot use their special attack until it recharges. Over time, the special bar will slowly refill.

All weapons with special attacks available to them are members only. All melee weapons made from the dragon metal and some weapons made from Runite have a special attack. A few other miscellaneous or unusual melee weapons also have a special attack, such as the famous and popular , which has a special attack that drains the run energy of the target in addition to being more accurate than the normal attack. The more powerful ranged weapons, such as Runite throwing axes and magic bows, also have special attacks. As with melee weapons, many unusual or special ranged weapons give access to special attacks as well. The only magic staff with a special attack is the Rod of Ivanis. Its special attack is only used in a specific mini-game, Temple Trekking.

Barrows sets do not have a normal special attack. Instead, when a player wears a complete Barrows armor set and wields the corresponding Barrows weapon, each of their attacks will have a random chance of being a more powerful "set special" attack. Barrows weapons do not have a special attack bar.
