Ruben Canelo

Ruben Canelo, Lord Ruben Canelo of Studley, KSJ MD FRCS FACS FICS FEBS (born 28 January 1958), Professor Canelo is a general and transplant Surgeon, specialising in liver, renal and pancreas transplantation. He qualified from the University of Cordoba in 1980. He has Italian background and British Nationality.
Professional biography
After completed medical and academic positions in Cordoba, he continuous his surgical training in Germany and France. In 1994 he was appointed as lead Consultant for Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary Surgery and Transplantation at the Georg-August-University Hospital in Goettingen in Germany. Professor Canelo was lead for Research Groups in Germany and France. He was a Member of the Advisory Board for the Eurotransplant for the University of Goettingen, and Member of the Board for the European Liver Transplant Registry for the same University. In 2002, Professor Canelo relocated in England and was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in HPB and Transplantation for Hammersmith Hospital, and St Mary's Hospital.Professor Canelo was Head of Transplant Surgery at King Faisal Hospital in Jeddah Saudi Arabia. Recently he was appointed as Director of Transplantation at Jose Maria Cullen Hospital in Santa Fe, Santa Fe, Argentina.
Professor Canelo's main interests are Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary Surgery and Renal, Pancreas and Liver Transplantation. He also undertakes vascular access for dialysis in patients suffering from renal diseases.
Professor Canelo was awarded a Chair of Surgery in 2009 at the Catholic University of Cordoba, Argentina for the Development of an International Exchange Program for Under and Postgraduate Student. He lectures widely on both the National and International circuits. Moreover, he published multiple original papers as well as books and book chapters. His main research is the use of peripheral adult human stem cells for the treatment of acute and chronic liver failure.
Professor Canelo has collaborated in the publication of numerous articles in medical publications.
