The Rotary Ramble (Ramble) is a charity based event that raises money for Telethon and Australian Rotary Health and other charities, that is managed by the Mill Point Rotary Club in Western Australia. The first Ramble started in 2011 with over 3, 500 participants and raised over $40,000 in total to be donated to the charities. The event takes place in the heart of Perth, Western Australia’s CBD. The Ramble has entrants compete against time and each other to gain points to determine a winner, while combined with previous fund raising efforts. History The Rotary Ramble was first held in 2011 as an initiative to raise money and awareness for Telethon and Australian Rotary Health, while engaging everyone from students to families to work teams. The idea was to combine an event that everyone in the community to get together for and participate in, while supporting a good cause. The Ramble’s aim was to combine physical activity, such as walking, with mental stimulus in the form of answering brain teasers and facts about Perth. The 2011 Ramble had 40 checkpoints which were used as bases to be handed questions by volunteers and participants answered those questions to gain and establish a winner at the end of the day. The 2011 Ramble was won by Team TriCycle, a group of friends from UWA. The 2012 Ramble increased to 60 checkpoints and included physical challenges and activities. For the second time Team Tricycle won the 2012 Ramble, consisting of a different group of UWA students. In a record breaking year the 2012 Ramble organisers handed over a cheque of $31,000 to Telethon and Australian Rotary Health $25,000. The Ramble 2011 2011 was the first Ramble which was described as a cross between a treasure hunt and an Amazing Race around Perth’s CBD. The race, which was held on October 9, was emceed by Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi with the major prize being return flights to Paris. 3,890 people competed in the Ramble on the day, with a total of $40, 000 being raised for the charities, Telethon and Australian Rotary Health. The race was made up of 40 checkpoints to be answered in the four hour event. The 2011 Ramble’s major sponsor was BHP Biliton. The opening and closing announcements were held in Forrest Chase.Prizes were also awarded to team that came in 'Best Costume' as well as a 'Random Prize' which was a prize given to a team at random and the grand prize being a trip to Paris. 2012 The Ramble was held on Sunday 21st October 2012 and had over 5000 attendees.
