Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally, also called Hells Canyon Rally or HCMR, is a motorcycle event and rally held annually in Baker City, Oregon. Approximately 5,000 riders make their way to the rally area for the 4-day event. Nearby Hells Canyon is the deepest canyon in North America and is accessed by Devil's Tail Road and the Snake River. Festivities include motorcycle rides, bike shows, rider awards, and street festivals. The event is held on the second Friday of June and is an economic boost to Baker City. In 2007 one motorcyclist crashed into a guardrail and fell into Hells Canyon. History The Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally started in June 2000 as a weekend ride from Portland Oregon to Baker City by a group of 8 motorcyclists led by Steve Folkestad, a member of the Rose City Motorcycle Club and Iron Butt Association. During the three-day trip they rode to Hells Canyon, Joseph, Oregon and the historic Geiser Grand Hotel. The ride became an annual event and grew rapidly. In 2007 accidents resulted in numerous injuries to motorcyclists.
