Ron Gerber

Ron "Boogiemonster" Gerber (born 22 October 1968) is an American disc jockey, pop music historian, and engineer.
Ron has an encyclopaedic knowledge of popular music, particularly that of the 1970s and 1980s. His long-running syndicated radio show, Crap From The Past, originates from KFAI in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ron draws from his personal collection of over 10,000 CDs, 45s, and vinyl albums to produce the show. The show features rare versions, early versions, and remakes of hit songs, songs from artists who had hits elsewhere, songs from artists before they made it big, multiple versions of the same song, and hit songs in foreign languages. Each week, the show may have a theme, such as songs by the same artists, a tribute to a recently-deceased singer, and Britain-only hits. In a number of episodes, Gerber has mocked commercial radio.
Among the songs played on the show:
*Everybody Wants to Run the World - A charity version of a Tears for Fears classic
*Umberto Tozzi's version of Gloria, which later became a hit for Laura Branigan
*Geno, a Dexy's Midnight Runners song that did not chart in the U.S., but was #1 in the UK
*Four versions of Der Kommissar: Falco, After the Fire, Suzy Andrews, and a Laura Branigan tune called "Deep in the Dark"
*Vacation done by a pre-Go-Gos Kathy Valentine and the Textones
*De_Do_Do_Do,_De_Da_Da_Da in Japanese
Ron attended the University of Rochester and received a Ph.D. in optics from the University of Arizona. Twenty-two United States patents bear his name.
