Biography
Jonathan Kovacs is the second oldest of four children, all born in Los Angeles. During his childhood, his father and mother, from France and Austria respectively, introduced him to artists such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. As he grew older, he discovered newer artists such as A Tribe Called Quest,
Nas and the Wu Tang Clan, all of which would later prove very influential to his music. He attended North Hollywood High School.
His first album was Summer. He chose his pseudo "J-Five" when he began to participate in rap battles. It is a short cut for Johnny 5, the name of the little robot in his favourite movie "Short Circuit".
J-Five began his solo career in 2004 with the first single "Modern Times". The track which featured Charlie Chaplin, peaked at #1 in France and was certified silver for selling 188,000 copies. A music video was released to illustrate this track, playing the review of the movie Modern Times in New York in 1936, with the exclusive participation of Dolores Chaplin, the granddaughter of the famous actor.
In November 2004, J-Five released his album Sweet Little Nothing, a mixture of rock, rap, funk, jazz and folk tones. A song "Find a Way", which was released as a single in Europe, became a airplay hit in Russia in 2005. It also received radio play in the Czech Republic, where hits #1 on the Czech Airplay Chart.
