Rockapedia

Rockapedia is a rock trivia show in Australia. The show follows formats similar to some of the industry standards in RocKwiz and Spicks and Specks.
Starting out...
Rockapedia was formed in St Kilda in 2002. Their first gig was at the St Kilda Sports Club / Bowling Club. The first line consisted of Ash "Flash" Dawson from Flash Ash and the Statics and more recently the covers duo of Richard Goes Hard. Jack Holt, formerly known as Jock Cheese from the band TISM
Paul Coles, keyboards and drums was at the original gig and joined the line up permanently from 2004. The engine room, Dave "The kegster" Downing joined the line up at the same time in 2004. The show is hosted by John McLoughlin . He had "guest" spots on FM Radio Melbourne, 3TripleM in the late 1990s and early 2000s in breakfast radio. He maintains his best claim to musical fame is "living in the house of a legend", Gerry Humphrys, lead singer of The Loved Ones. He was employed at Richmond FC in the early 2000s as a Match Day MC for the club's corporate lunches at the MCG for ground announcements, marketing and corporate functions.
Early history
Rockapedia had its first bigger style show for 250 guests at Sandringham in 2005. That show was major success and a launching pad for the show as a corporate and social fundraising concept. The show continued in the next few years building and servicing an expanding client base. Show continued to be booked for clubs, schools, social groups and corporate clients. The winner of the first Rockapedia Show was Charlie Owen, well known guitarist from Tex Perkins', The Cruel Sea.
Recent history
Jason Palmer joined the show in May 2010 as acoustic guitar and lead singer. Jason added a whole range of new options for the show in it covers set. Jason Palmer continues to split his time between his passion for music and film making. In 2010 his film, RBG finished in the Top 10 of the Tropfest short movie festival.
Rockapedia today
Rockapedia has included a variety of musicians in the line up over the last few years. The changes are mostly around the availability of the band members, rather than any disharmony. In 2013 Ash Dawson briefly flirted with a solo career under the banner of Richard Goes Hard. That was the name of the original covers band he played in. The idea came to him when he actually "found" the old banner in the garage during a clean up. The idea was dropped quickly after advice from newest band member, Greg "Wildebeest" Wilson who had also flirted with and funded his own production of the Johnny Cash Story. The planning was all brought undone by the announcement of a Tex Perkins show of the same name.
The band recently returned from a recording session at the Sun Studio in Memphis. Unfortunately the recording was only a video of the band doing the tour of the studio but did spark some media interest in the twittersphere late in 2013.
The current line up revolves around the core of Ash Dawson, Dave Downing, Paul Coles, Jason Palmer and Jack Holt with support from studio musicians in Garth McLardie and Greg Wilson.
The current riffs include many of the rock classics from these legendary line ups:
* Lynard Skynnard
* The Vapours
* Red Hot Chili Peppers
* Alien Ant Farm
* John Butler Trio
* Australian Crawl
* The White Stripes
* Cream
* Van Halen
* Pearl Jam
* Yes
